Last Sunday dawned once more tho ever memorable Easter Sunday. The sun shone bright and clear and though quite cool, every indication indicated a beautiful day and ns aurora ascended iu the broad canopy the day seemed t<> grow brighter and more beautiful,- aud had it not been for the blustering March wind that grew stronger throughout the day it would have been the most pleas ant Easter that we recollect of ever seeing; Our people turned out many of them in their new spring suits aud animate nature clothed iu the beautiful green foliage of spring, rendered the day one of unusual interest and pleasure. Last Sunday afternoon Rev. R. M. lectured our Sunday School at considerable length. His lecture was confined principally to tho small children Who gave close attention and were much interested in what the good man had to say. Rev. Mr. Lockwood has devoted a great deal of time to Sunday School work, having last year filled the position of Sunday School Secretary of the South Georgia Conference and traveled all over the Conference in the cause, and no one is better qualified for so important a work. He introduced in otn- School, the system of illustrating the lesson on thiftlack board which is the first thing of the kind many of our schools had ever seen aud induced our school to purchase a black board which may be seen in our School alter this, Married. A Tennesee man accidently shot n dog, and iu trying to explain to‘the owner how it occurred accidently shot him. A coroner thought lie ought to explain how ho shot tho man, but couldn’t get a jury that was willing to listen to the explanation; they were kind of shy ot him, as it were. Sunday Service. Eev, R. M. Lockwood of Eastman preached at this place last Sunday to a large and appreciative andinece. His subject was the resurection of Christ, and his discourse on that great ovent was pronounced by many to b# the most elaborate and exhaustive they had ever listened to. He labored hard and earnest, and well did he illustrate, the 1I/1VU force of »-'* uiu his t remarks L-u<>>ii.w by quoting vj.. w.-jj from —— some of the most authentic historians of antiquity to prove the correctness of the Bible history of his subject. And appropriately did we think his position was taken when he suid that unless we live in this world soas entitle us to life everlasting in the world to come, that our lives are no more than the animal that roams over the field and forest. He preached again atjnight to a good audience and our people were much pleased with him and hope that he may preach for us again soon. Slsoj't Slops. Many thanks for the serenade. Another marriage will soon come off. He is too elegant for this town ; he is. It is very naughty to whisper in time of Divine services. No part of a man will stand as many blows as his nose. The man who exploded with laughter probably didn’t know it was loaded. Some people don’t know their own signatures. He gets mad too easy; you should not do so, young man. Tlt for Tat.— Mr. C.--was pastor , of a Baptist church in a certain town iu one of tho Western States, He had been, on very bad terms with his flock for some time. They abused him when ever they could find occasion, and he reciprocated with equal readiness. Before- his contract with the parish expired he received the appointment of chaplain at the Stuta prison. May Ins success be increased with the progress of time, his subscrip tion list grow larger his advertisers be come countless. At 6:45 the journey was ended and Macon reached. After a hasty break fast at the Brown House we started on a stroll through the city to see aud be seen. The first thing which attracted our attention was the marked increase of business activity since our last visit aud the number of houses erected or iu process of erection where a short time ago all seemed dead and useless. The “burnt district,” that portion of Cherry street adjourning the Telcyraph aud Messenger block, aud which a disastrous fire had robbed of its life and beauty, has been partially rebuilt and will be once 'I.,,. more wholly occupied with sub stuutial , business houses , befoto i t , lull. f u Rogers & Co., already occupy their new building on their old site, aud the re mainder of the square will be devoted to the shoe business of. While in the city we visited the office of the Daily Telegraph, and found that some very important changes had been made on the editorial staff. The Senior Editor, Mr. Joseph Clishy, after an ac tive and useful editorial career has divid ed his labors with Rev. Mr. Sweet, the “Jack Plane” of the Savannah Mews, whose facile pen has nr ail e much repu tation for that paper. His duties on the Messenger are chiefly devoted to its Weekly, and we have no doubt that un der his management t.ha “old anil relia ble” journal will gain a rich harvest of wealth aud fame. The former local edi tor, Mr. J. II. Jones has retired from the management ot that department, and his duties are now performed by Mr. H. C. This is a compound remedy, prepared with scientific skill from vegetable ingredients, which rarely fails to cure the severest cases of Cliilla and Fever and the concomitant disorders. Such a remedy the necessities of tho people in mala rious districts demand.
