The health of Argyle is
better than usual .also trade is im
proving. The r^y^rter was called
on to day by customers from
sister towns, Homeryille and
Manor, and we are pleased to
that we can fiimsh customers with
tirstclass goods and at as low
as any house in this section.
Our friend D.O.Ratliff give us a
jwhat alltodav Mr. Ratliff is some
possesed with one of
pleasantes smiles of any man Wh
know of.
i Mr. T. J. Strange of Travisville,
; was in town tliis week and seemed
| to lie in higher spirits than usual,
j We hope spirits terpentine will
bring 40 cents, as it gives the
x„ V al Store men such pretty
smiles.
The postoffice of this place lias
changed hands, Mr J'. XV. Burt has
been appointed to till Mr. 1. II.
Drawdv’s place, the name of the
office has been changed to Argyle.
We had the pleasure of meeting
one t if our old friend m Honnrville
last Tuesday Mr. M. C. Flitch, he
told us that he was sixty-four,and
fought all through the confederate
war and came home without a
scratch. He came to our county
in 1*71 and was never sued nor lias
never worked a day for wages, I
have been acquainted with him for
some time as one of my best
friends and neighbors, and can
say, I never lived .by a man with
more hospitality, in fact Mr.
Fut-cli proposed to do more for me
than any man outside of my fami¬
ly. Who at the age of 64 can say
for the truth, the same words that
Mr. Futch has remarked, We
think if it was put to the test that
ninety-nine out of a hundred
would remain silent.
The reporter caught aglimpaof
an article in the News from the
tax Collector stating what multi¬
plying corn lie had, and thinks it
probable that his brother had a
vision, or that his statement was
unnatural. Jim Phillips captured
a large rattler a few days ago in
town, which measured five feet
four inches and had fourteen rat¬
tles.
Prof. Dickerson visited our
school in this place lust Wednes¬
day, the reporter accompanied him
to the school and was much pleased
with the instructions given the
teacher and pupils. Mr. Dicker-
son is not such a good looking man
but lie lias such a fine complicated
way of transacting his business
that we wish him good success.

Clinch County News;
Gentlemen :—Please allow US
-pace in otic corner of your neat
and valuable paper to mention a
few matters concerning our neigh-
bors and t he weather. First we can
boast of the finest crops for many
years past. Second we can mention
one of the most interesting schools
I in the state, conducted by Prof.
jc. W. Lankford who is a gnuluatc
of. the Abbeville Normal school.
We are not in the bean
but-leave that for Argyle as they
will raise enough for all of us if the
vines continue to grow.
Several of our young folks took
in the excursion to Suwannee
Springs Saturday.
Slip planting is nearly over, how
ever, we nre without potat j(i<4 to
eat. Guess we cat; soon get plenty
from Argyle if Mr. J. hasn't un¬
loaded 1 1 is wagon yet.
Mr. J. A. O'Steen made a busi-
trip to Guest’s mill Monday
„ !l( | found Mr. Guest consi<ieral>ly
torn up ns his house bud ben brok
on open and two Winchester rillefl
LttlvUi, t the greatest trouble one of
them was borrowed to shoot lisli
with, so the fish is lost as well as
the gun.
Mr. Johnat han O’Steen is visit-
ing Argyle, as if in seurcli of vel-
bean seed.
Mr. T. D. Colley, one of our
best farmers, is smiling over hi-
fine cotton crop.
Measles is raging in our commu¬
nity, somewhat to the injury of
our school; not. more than ten cases
reported in anyone family.'
Our school children was much
excited last week on tinding a large
rattle shake under a log they used
for a dinner table, but the mon¬
ster is out of the way now.
Sheriff O'Steen has just return¬
ed from an extended visit to ,1 illi¬
cit Fla. and is somewhat discour¬
aged as he thinks there is more
suitable grounds for burying pur¬
poses than living in the land of
flowers.
May your paper ever prosper.
