Board of health Meets.
The annual meeting of the state
board of health will be held Tues-
day in the offices of the board in
the basement of the capitol.
Two very important matters, to
be determined upon are the estab¬
lishment of a free Pasteur Insti-
tute for the treatment of rabies,
and the establishment of a labora¬
tory for the manufacture of diph¬
theria antitoxin. This serum will
be distributed free over the state
in diphtheria epidemics.
The last legislature gave the
board $3,000 with which to estab-
lish these important branches of
the work.

first of March.

Two Lockers in Atlanta.
Only two Atlanta clubs have
^iven notice of their intention to
pay the state “locke»-” tax of
$500 each, the Capital City and
Transportation Club. The latter
is composed principally of rail¬
road men.
It is announced that both these
Clubs will act in accord with the
recent charge of Judge Pendleton
to the grand jury and will not
jiermit any but members to enter
their doors. All courtesies, it is
stated, have been called in and
ifonly members can keep there and
use their own private stock of

Governor will Run for Senate.
Gov. IToke Smith has never

Several friends of the Governor

that he has positively told them
that he proposes to run for the
Senate, and they are putting it in
such a manner as to leave no

Makes Fine Showing, And The
Regular Dividend Was
Paid Out
-
1 he Bank of Hotnerviile has
made an excellent showing for the
latter half of the year 1907 as evi-
denccd by their report to the
State Bank Examiner published
in last week’s issue.
Despite the financial flurry the
demand deposits of the bank show
a steady increase, which bespeaks
the confidence the people have in
their local institution and its offi¬
cers.
The regular semi-annual divi¬
dend of 5 per cent was paid out on
the first. This makes 10 per cent
for the year, besides nearly 11
per cent carried to surplus.
