They Will Let Women Hold Something.
Boston Post.
“I don’t see,” observed Mrs. Grap, “why,
when they are giving away all of them
offices, they don’t let women hold some
thing.”
“They would, my dear, but the women
won’t do it,” answered her husband.
*Wfl 1, I should like to know, John Grap,
what they’ll let them hold ?”
He took his hat, looked to see that the
hall door was open, and in trembling ac
cents murmured, “Their longues, my
dear.”
Insisting Upon Ills Earning His Pay.
An oil country resident gave a grand
party in honor of a “gusher” which had
been struck on his territory, and among the
many features of the occasion was a full or
chestra imported from Cleveland.
During a waltz the oil citizen approached
one of the musicians and whispered:
“Why don’t you play ?”
“I rest here,” replied the musician.
“No, you don’t rest here. It ain’t 12
o’clock yet, and besides I pay you to play,
and you’ve got to play.”
He Wouldn’t Be Equal to the Job.
“ I suppose,” Said a politician, who had
been somewhat bored by a reporter, “ that at
the day of judgment you will be on hand to
report the proceedings ? ”
“ Very likely,” he replied.
“ And' you wiil take down my sins as they
are called off with a good deal of pleasure.”
“ Oh, I shan’t be assigned to report your
sins,”
“ Why not ? ”
“Because I am not a shorthand writer.”
He Wasn’t Making No Spanish Treaties.
Smith—“ And do you call this ere thing a
fair contract ? ”
Jones—“ Why, of course. You are to
make over to me your house and lot, and 1
am to give you in return the first yellow dog
I catch.”
Smith—“ You git out 1 I ain’t making no
