No Business to Have Houses so Much Alike.
Kentucky State Journal.
Jinks and Kinks were each out late on
Friday night. Their houses are next door
to each other and made alike Ji iks ar

o’clock. He rang the doorbell; and, cold at
it was, a woman put her head out of a
second story wind >w and asked in a low
tone, so that the neighbors might not hear
her:
“Is that you ?” .
“Schpose I (hie) could ba any (hie) body

The good wife then threw a shawl abrut
her hastily, ran down the stairs and un
locked the door to let him in, and, without
saying a word, went back to her b d
The man finally get up stairs and in the
room, where he found the good woman in
bed with her head covered and weeping.
“Whatsh matter, Sis’”
“Oh —oh—you’re drunk again!” she got
out between deep jerking sobs. “You don’t
even talk like yourself.”
* “Yesh, I do, Sis. Thish is me.” And
raising the cover from over her face he said :
“Kish me, Sis. Why, hel [tic] lu! Been

“Murder! Get out of here! You’re not
my husband! You’re Jink I Go home! ,
Oh—oh—oh!” And she covered her head
tighter than ever and drew her form up into
a knot.
“An’ you’re Mrs. [hie] Rinks! How d ,
ye git in my [hie] room? Where’s Sis? ’
“Oh! Get out of here! You’re in the
wrong house!” she again scrermed with her
head under the covers.
Jinks then looked about the room, and
discovering his mistake, said:
“Guess I am in [hie] the wrong shop.
No bishness [hie] have houses all alike

word about it to anv [hie] body.”
And he got down to the front door just in
time to let Kinks in, who, supposing him to
be a burglar, seized him by the throat, and
the two rolled about over the sidewalk in
one of the liveliest rrugh and tumble fights

the »pot several gentlemen, who separated
the two and were highly pleased at the
explanation Jinks gave of the cause of the

Routed by a Tiger.
The schooner H. L. Whitford went ashore
Saturday near Lewes, Del., under unusual
circumstances. Wi en discovered by Cap
tain Healey, of the tuzboat Hercules, ol
Philadelphia, the si'u iti-m of the men on
the schooner was as f Jlows: One man was
standing on the foretopmast crosstrees, with
a red handkerchief tied in the rigging above
his head; another stood up in the maintop,
shouting, and in the yawlboat astern were
three men, one cf whom stood up
in the bows with au ear in his hand,
as if he was waiting for somebody
or something to show I;up over the
schooner’s taflndl. When the men on the
tug respondelto the call for help a royal
Bengal tiger was discovered on the star
board side of the galley house. The con
tents of four revolvers and a shot gun were
poured at the tiger from the tug, and one
of his forepows hung limp. The hose was
then unreeled ami quick.y filled with hot
water from the boilers The boiling water
fairly hissed as it shot from the m zzle ol
the hose, bu’ the sight of the show was
when it struck the tiger. He jumped tec
feet, into the air and 'et out a roar that fairly
shook thevesse'. Again the water struck him
and he jumped an I r ared and was fairly
forced down the main hatch, where his broken
cage lay, and the tiger was secured. Capt.
Pet'it, of the schoone-, then explaineu
how he managed to get into such a fix
Last Thursday he took the tiger on board at
Richmond He had been sold by Adam
Forepaugh to the trustees of Roger Wil
liams Park in Providence, R. 1., to be placed
in the menagerie there In the blow on
Friday n’ght, coming d >wn the river, the
cage broke adrift fnm >*s fastening and
Wts sidamagtd that th< be st nantged to
crawl out. The hatchway over his cage had
been left open for ■ir and the tiger took
possession of the schooner's deck. They
had been drifting for nearly three hours
when S'ghted by the tug.

Durham is historic. It was neutral ground
during the armistice between Sherman aud
Johnson. Soldiers of both armies filled
their pouches with the tobacco stored there,
and, after the surrender, marched home

North and South, for “more of that elegant
tobacco.” Then, ten men ran an unknown
factory. Now it employs 800 men, uses the
pink and pick of the Golden Belt, and the
