Teaching a school for Indian boys in
New Mexico is attend'd with some incon
veniences. The other day several Apache
braves visited a school in Albuquerque
where their sons were pupils, full of wrath
and whisky. They wanted to clean out the
whole establishment because they had
heard that the Indian lads were occasion
ally punished. And the only way to pacify
them was to get them so drunk that they
were helpless.
The approaching completion of the In

ling condition of things. The original ap

$2,000,000, but the prospect is that the cost
will be $136,000 less than this amount. Il
is thought that there must be some mistake,
for no architect or contractor in the pos
session of his senses would deliberately
come short of his estimates and thus de
moralize the business.
A writer in Science, discussing the sub

it has inceased twenty per cent, in the
eastern half of the State s'nee its occupation
by the white settlers, Western Kansas has
little increase of rainfall to boast of, and
little to hope for. He greatly doubts, indeed, ;
whether this half of the State, lying outside ■
the immediate track of vapor laden winds,,
can ever have a rainfall adequate to main
tain successful agriculture.

MILUNEBY.
Our low prices for both trimmed and untrimmed hats annoy the very life of certain
high-priced milliners. We frequently hear iron customers how uncomplimentary they
speak of us as ruini eg trade. ell, that doesn’t worry us a bit. We rather like it. It is a
confirmation strong as holy writ that they are jealous of our reputation for selling the
cheapest line of Millinery. The object 3f this corner of our advertisement is to let you know
that our New York buy rs purchased at a sacrifice an enormous quantity oi trimmed and
untrimmed Hats, the balance oi stock of one of the largest New York importers. These pur
chases, in addition to our large .stock, crowds us so much that we can hardly turn round.
In fact we frankly acknowledge that we are heavily overloaded, and as we know the quick
est way to unload is to cut prices, therefore this week we shall otter Hats, in fact everything
in the Millinery line, at 25 cents on the dollar.

Certain retail dealers ofthis city, because wehaveseen fit to break the combination price
of certain makes of shoes, try to keep us from getting tuese makes. The public may not
kn > v it, but some makers ofsiioes decline to sell a merchant unless he will agree to retail
the shoe at a ceriain high price fixed by himself. This we invariably decline to do. We buy
our Shoes, pay for them, and it’s no business of the maker at what price we sei* them for.
We would be in a pretty fix this week, when we Intend to cut prices lower than ever before,
if we could not put prices down below wh it manufacturers chose to name. The tremendous
stock that is to be sold offers an opportunity for variety, shape and style that no person who
lias feet should neglect.
