Origin of the Kiel Rebellion.
Springfield Republican.
In dealing with the present rebellion in
the Canadian Northwest it is fair to ignore
all the wild stories of Louis Kiel’s seditious
proclivities, and to look directly at the de
mands of the half-breeds. In the first place
it is not Manitoba that the Dominion is
called upon to fight, but the settlements
running almost one thousand miles north
west of Winnipeg on the Saskatchewan river,
beyond the Manitoban boundary. The pres
ent outbreak is but a repetition of the re
bellion of 1860, which was mainly a land
fight. All of the Canadian Northwest was
governed up to that year by the Hudson
Bay Company, which sold out to the Cana
dian Government for $1,500,000. The rule
among the half-breeds was to locate their
lands upon the rivers, the frontage being
small, but the farms running back in some
cases several miles. When the Canadian
Government got control it sent out survey
ors to cut the country up into square blocks,
entirely ignoring the river frontage. This,
it will be remembered, was in the bound
aries of Manitoba. The story of how the
fiery, handsome and Catholic educated
Louis Kiel put his fool on the surveyor’s
chair near Winnipeg and ordered him to
stop is one of the pictures of the rebel ion of
1869. A rising was ordered and a bill cf
rights drawn. The result of the matter was
that while Keil was banished and most, of
the demands for special privileges were ig
nored, awards were made lor disturbing the
River frontage by granting the half breeds
each 240 acres of land. But this law, passed
in 1870, applied to Manitoba only. Now the
Northwest is filling up, and the same front
age system is being ignored. The present
outbreak is therefore a repetition of the re
bellion of 1869, led by the same man, with
substantially the stme demands. The
French half breeds want to be put under the
land law of 1870, and this explains the cool
ness of the French Canadians toward the
government in its efforts to suppress rebel
lion.
A Model Sanitarium
The Invalids’ Hotel and Surgical Insti
tute, at Buffalo, N. Y., organized with a
full Staff of eighteen Physic! ms and Sur
geons, and extensively devoted to the treat
ment of all chronic diseases, was designed
and erected to accommodate the large num
ber of invalids who visit Buffalo from'every
State and Territory, as well as from many
foreign lands, that they may avail them
selves of the services of the staff of skilled
specialists in medicine and surgery that
compose the Faculty of this widely-cele
brated Institution. Only men who are by
thorough education and experience espe
cially fitted to fill their respective positions
have been chosen to serve as physicians and
surgeons in this Institution.
COMMON SENSE AS APPLIED TO MEDICINE.
It is a well-known fact, and one which
appeals to the judgment of every thinking
person, that the physician who devotes his
whole time to the study and investigation of
a certain class of diseases, must become better
qualified to treat such diseases than he who
attempts to treat every ill to which flesh is
heir, without giving special attention to any
particular class of diseases. Men, in all ages
of the world, who have become famous, have
devoted their lives to some special branch of
science, art, or literature. By thorough or
ganization, and sub-division of the practice
of medicine and surgery in this Institution,
every invalid is treated by a specialist, one
who devotes his undivided attention to the
particular class of diseases to which the case
belongs. The advantage of this arrangement
must be obvious. The Faculty of this Insti
tution having confined their attention whol
ly to the treatment of chronic ailments, have
attained the greatest success, which has
given rise to a practice of such vast propor
tions as to have necessitated the recent en
largement of the building originally erected
to accommodate this growing practice.
fALL CIIHINIC diseases a specialty.
Although, wc cannot, tn this brief notice,
make mention of the various ailments to
which particulir attention is given by the
specialists at the Invalid’s Hotel and Sur
gical Institute, yet we may state, in a gen
eral way, that the institution abounds in
skip, facilities and apparatus for the suc
cessful treatment of every chronic ailment,
whether requiring fur its cure medical or
surgical means. “The Invalid’s Guide

An Unfortunate Somnambulist.
Henry Peters was brought before a justice
of the peace, charged with burgl try
“According to the testimony,” said the
justice, “you were caught just as you were
coming out of the window with the contents
of the till.”
“Yes, judge, and I will always be grateful
to the man who caught me. When I have
these somnambulistic fits I am in danger of
falling out of the window and hurting my
self.”
“That never occurred to me,” said the
judge, pensively.
“It has often occurred to me,” responded
the accused with unconscious humor.
“That being the case,” responded the
judge, “I will direct the sheriff—”
“To turn me loose?” anxiously inquired
the prisoner.
“No, but to put an extra bar across your
cell window.”

Almost a Miracle 1
A REMARKABLE STORY.
A few day? ago a gentleman of high standing in
Atlanta met Dr. J. Bradfield on the street, and related
the following, in which all ladies are deeply in
terested :
“For the past eighteen months my wife has been
an invalid, caused from womb troulile, cessation of
mense , etc., and I have tried everything! could hear
of in the way of medicine, and have had several of our
best physicians attending her. to one of whom (calling
him by name) I paid one hundred and sixty-three dol
lars. Instead of improving or getting any relief, she
gradually grew worse, and I had almost given up hope,
and really did not believe she would ever get up from
an invalid’s bed; but a friend of mine who knew of
the case suggested the use of
Bradfield’s Female Regulator,
and although he stated that he knew of a similar case
being cured by it, and endorsed it highly himself, I
was so discouraged 1 did not believe it would do her
any good; but as a last resort 1 bought a large bottle of
it and she began taking it, and from tne very first a
marked change took place. She begun to improve
rapidly, her appetite returned, her whole system was
built up, and to-day she is as well and sound as ever
in her life, and I am under lifelong obligations to you
and your remedy, for it undoubtedly saved her life;”
and he added, “I wish every lady in the world so af
flicted would try it, as 1 know it cure them.”

GULLIBILITY.
The wild phantoms and shrieking cries of a worth
less humbug can make money by imposing upon the
credulity and ignorance of an honest public, and the
supply of this species of work seems more than an
adequate demand.
The enunciation of facts —facts that have stood
crucial tests —facts proven by brain force and tangi
ble evidonce, should satisfy all laudable enterprises;
but the excrable habit of teaching false ideas and
doctrines for self aggrandizement is truly reprehensi
ble, and should be scorned by all classes.
When we tell the public that B. B. 8., the great
Blood Poison Remedy, contains lodide of Potash as
one of its ingredients, and when we, as old members
of the medical profession, say that lodide of Potash is
not a poison, we think it very presumptive for men
outside of the profession to assert that it is a poison.
The facts do not warrant such a conclusion, and if
those who make the assertion that Potash is a poison
do not know better, they are a set of unenviable ig
noramuses.
Asa solid foundation of heavy masonry has been
built for B. B. B.» upon which it is now proudly
perched —the broken arches and fallen columns of
brazen humbugs will soon be In search of fresh
“cock and bull” stories and [more printers’ ink, but
merit cannot be downed. Although B. B. B is only
one year old, yet its effect —its magical and peerless
power over all blood, skin and kidney diseases, has
been indelibly enstamped upon the tablets of the
memory of thousands here at home, who have been
cured after having used hundreds of bottles of other
remedies.
Compared to other remedies, B. B. B. is the radient
sunbeam of midday, flinging its glittering glare to
saddened hearts, while others are pale moonbeams,
pushing along through misty meshes of darkness, in
search of something they can cure.
It cures Blood Diseases and Poisons, Catarrh, Old
Ulcers, Scrofula, Rheumatism, Skin Diseases, Kidney
troubles, etc., and w® hold a 32-page book full of evi
dence —Atlanta evidence—that cannot be doubted,
