I’EAISSON TRIBUNE, JULY 27,1011 THE RAINBOW TRAIL Crops give rich and verdant promise. Central and South Georgia, rollin valleys of corn to turn the envy of Kansas or 11 lino is. Such a pretty stand of cotton as this year greets the eye has not been given us in such generous largeness in many a year —if ever —if one stops to figure out about wliat the lint and the products of the boll will fetch this fall. The greenery of Georgia is a savor to the soul and a rest and balm to the eye. Velvet beans, young sorghum, peanuts, the grassy fodder crops roll back from a hundred dirt roads in ample testimony as to the reason the pigs and the cattle, the workstock and the dairy herd look so well fed and splendid in Georgia. War there may be across the seas. The alarums of the struggle may in all truth be at. our very doors and summoning our own young men to a muddy hell be yond, but here in the common wealth this summer the land Hows with its milk and its honey, rejoices in its cattle on a thousand hillsand rests under the Lebanonie cedars that grace the country homestead. We may have had better crop years in Georgia. We may have had years when the money heading of the growing things stood in larger proportion to the weight of the stalk that bore it, but never has there been a year in almost a generation when every thing out doors looked so good. It dosen’t seem to make much difference in Georgia what the weather does. Drouth may kill oats and dwindle wheat, but il makes fine cotton. 'Poo much rain may turn the earliest of the cotton over to the weevil, but it only makes the greener crops the greener, the lustier and stouter. 11 semß so rich and good and plenteous now that the old Anglo Saxon custom of the annual bar vest festival, the community ccle brat ion of the "bringing in the sheaves” might well find a revived observance in Georgia and with a day of peace and rest to the beast of the farm, man may repair him self with his kind to give thanks and sing praise on the laying by of the crops, on the never failing fulfilment of the worlds old pledge of the rainbow. —Macon Telegraph.
