The News is sorry that the
loeal school tax measure failed in
Berrien county last week. We
are standing in our own Jight
when we refuse to better our con
dition and the condition of the
rising generation about us. The
more intelligent and progressive a
community is the better it is for
all living in that community and
the more inducement there is for
others to come and live among us.
We ought not to stand back on
the few dollars it would cost each
of us when the good of an entire
county is at stake. —Adel News.
When you yawn a good deal in
the daytime, feel dull, achey and
want to stretell frequently, il is
an unmistakable symptom of
malaria, and unless you do some
thing at once you are booked for a
spell of chills. Hkrjunk isachili
medicine that will prevent or cure
the disease. It drives out the im
purities on which the malarial
germ thrives, strengthens the liver
and cleanses the bowels. ’Price

It has been suggested that steps
should be taken to have the name
as Dooly's eopital changed be
cause it is spelled like that of the
Austrian capital. Let the Ams
Irian capital change if she objects
to being called by the same name
as (me of the best and most loyal
towns in the I . S. A. We are
satisfied. A town by some other
name might be as loyal but never
any more so than Vienna, Dooly
country, (ieorgia. —Vienna News.

About as well try to but down
a stone wall as to try to resist
draft law. Holding public meet
ings and resolving and resolut
ing in obedience to the i"-advice
of Tom Watson will accomplish
nothing further than to create a
spiii : of bitterness in the minds of
the young men who had rather
stay at home than to go across the
ocean to fight the Germans. In
stead of doing good it will do a
lot of harm. It's the law and
those subject, without a lawful ex
cuse. will have to fight whether
they want to or not. Talk about
resisting it and testing it in the
courts is childish. —Lyons Pro
gress.
"Dog days are here." says the
Macon Telegraph. "The weather
bureau reported last night that
tin* highest temperature for the
first day was 04 degrees, with no
rainfall. There is an old tradition
which old citizens declare has al
most invariably come true, that if
it rains on the first day of dog
days it will rain for forty days.
As it didn't rain persons believing
in this tradition say there need be
no fear of any continued rainfall
during the forty days."
