PERSONAL and LOCAL Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Patterson have commenced keeping house and are much pleased with the ex periment. Postmaster William Smith, of Pearson, is serving the county on the grand jury during this session of Coffee Superior court. Miss Linnie Parley, after a pleasant visit of several days to her uncle, Dr. B. >S. Malone, left for her home Saturday afternoon. Mr. H. H. Parker, and two sons, Edgar and Alfred, formerly of Tifton but now of Ashburn, were in the city last Friday prospecting. Hope these good people will locate here. They will make admirable citizens. Mr. L. O. Whitley succeeds to the business of Baker Mercantile Company at Moore's Mill. He will discontinue his market business in town. Mr. Baker goes to some point in South Carolina to engage in the saw mill business. Mr. Vernie Starling has received an honorable discharge from the army because of defective hearing, lb- is a sou of Mr. and Mrs. Juni per Starling, who live upon Katilla river, and a brother of Joe, Allen and John and Mrs. Alethia Wall. John is still in the army. Mr. A. J. Huggins is a Pearson contractor who has to his credit in this city the finishing up of the Pearson High School building, the planning and building of the Malone block including Hotel Ma lone, and is now engaged on the Halford two story concrete block. It is understood that Mr. Huggins is to make Pearson his future headquarters. On Thursday night of last week persons living near the Baptist church were awakened by groans from some one in distress. Mrs. FI. 1,. Padriek instituted an inves tigation and found an old negro man. a stranger here, leaning up against the northwest corner of the church and apparently in great pain. The old man accounted for his condition by saying lie had eaten some cabbage which had produced acute indigestion. The old negro died about 12 or 1 o’clock, and was buried at the count’ys ex pense. Bartel], of Heming way, S. C., was in the city Thurs day. He came to looff after some real estate here owned by his minor sfn, Etheridge Bartell. Mesdames Christopher and Ward, of Millwood, were visitors to the city Tuesday. Mr. Christo pher was here making preparations to move back to Pearson. Harry, the little foster-son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Corbitt, is rapidly convalescing from the spell of pneumonia which it was thought for a while would prove fatal. Miss Lois Allen, a niece of the Tribune editor who once had a small music class in Pearson, has accepted the position of music in structor in the public school of Doerun, Oa., which opens for the fall term next Monday. Among the guests at Hotel Ma lone the past week were Col. and Mrs. W. T. Dickerson and family, of Homorville; Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Vann, Mr. and Mrs. John Vann and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Lott and family, Mr. and Mrs. W. I). Hudspeth and Mr. and Mrs. J, L. Soyars, of Way cross, and Mr. E. T. Lock aid, of Jacksonville, These were friends and relatives of Dr. and MrS. Malone. A criminal case of considerable importance has developed in Cof fee county, near the line of Berrien. Tally Hall. Cus Hall, Wiley Tyson and Ike Moore have been arrested on warrants charging them with the theft of beef cattle in the Has kins settlement. The defendants are in jails at Ocilla, Fitzgerald, Douglas and Wuycross. They were separated to keep them from talking about fhe case. Tally Hall is a wealthy land owner and owns and operates several large plantations, in addition to the charge of cattle rustling, he is un der indictment for murder, and his case is set for next Monday. The state is represented by Solicitor M. D. Dickerson and I’. A. Wal lace, of Douglas, while the defend ants are represented by Col. J. C. Smith of Nashville and Col.
