Some Valdosta men own an is
land off the Georgia coast where
they think they can plant cotton
and be safe from the boll weevil.
This weevil thing crossed the Miss

knew he could not do it and he
would probably swim over to any
island where there was cotton. —

FEED OUT YOUR HOGS SIX
WEEKS EARLIER.
In every lot of hogs on feed two
or three weeks quickly and ac
tually eat less than others. If
all would fatten like these, the
entire drove would be ready for
the market six weeks earlier and
to save six weeks feed is an item
that you fully understand.
The hog that fattens easily must
be in prime physical condition.
The B. A. Thomas' Hog Powder is
a conditioner for hogs. It keeps
their system clean and healthy
andjenables them to fatten quick
ly without falling a prey to the
usual diseases of hogs. The B.
A. Thomas’ Hog Powder is not
stock food. It’s straight medi
cine and we took the agency be
cause it enables you to feed out
your hogs much earlier. For sale

ATLANTA LETTER
Atlanta, Ga. Sept. 5. —Since
President Wilson has fixed the
price of wheat at the substantial
figure of $2.20 per bushel, there is
no reason on earth why every
farmer in Georgia should not raise
all the wheat he can this fall.
Put in not only your two acres to
the plow, but more. Put all the
good land you've got in winter
wheat. There’s good money in it.
We should raise even more than
10,000,000 bushels; the world is
waiting for it. Prepare your land
and arrange for your seed now.
There's a big opportunity here for
every Georgia farmer, and every*
one of them who does not take ad
vantage of it will make a serious
mistake.
“Give me a piece of sweet pota
to pie.” Call for it in your res
taurant, anywhere in Georgia.
Candied yams or baked sweet po
tatoes make a good substitute.
But be sure to see that one of
them or more is on your bill of
fare.
This is a state department of
agriculture slogan. The depart
ment has already requested sever
al hundred people to do it; they
have promised they would do it.
Let the good work go on; the de
partment will do its share.
Now that we’ve got the sweet
potato on the army ration list,
let's make it “King” in the food
world as cotton is “King” in that
of textiles and clothing. We can
do it. We are going to do it!
The state department of agricul
ture is going to see to it that
Georgia boys in Camp Gordon,
Camp Harris, at Augusta and
wherever else they may be quar
tered inside the state, are properly
protected in the matter of pure
foods.
General orders have just been
issued covering requirements plac
ed upon all dealers in food products
in the vicinity of these camps, and
these orders must be rigidly ad
hered to. The authorized inspec
tors of the pure food department
will be continually on the watch,
and if there is any violation, it
will be promptly handled. All
flagrant eases will be prosecuted.
Georgia boys in the army camps in
this state may rest ieasonably as
sured that what they get to eat
and drink around the camps is
carefully safeguarded.
The Georgia- Land Owners’ As
sociation is going to hold a big
meeting at Tifton on Sept. 15th.
The department’s interest in this
meeting arises principally from the
fact that cattle-tick eradication is
one of its chief aims. No man
need hope to grow cattle profita
bly', even if it be only two or three
head a year, in tick-infested terri
tory. Every man in South Geor
gia and in other sections of the
state, interested in successful cat
tle raising, should attend the Tif
ton meeting. He will learn much
that will be well worth while.
The new state cattle tick eradi
cation law, passed at the recent
session of the legislature, will be
enforced to the letter. The state
agricultural department is now
making plans to this end. Every
thing possible will be done in co
operation with the federal govern
ment, to clean the cattle tick out
of Georgia at the earliest possible
moment.
Georgia is entitled to take i>osi
tion as one of the greatest cattle
growing states in the country. It
is the purpose of the department,
as far as is in its power, to see that
Georgia does this under the new
law. This law prohibits the move
ment of cattle from any tick infest
ed territory to any territory that
is tick-free, whether a whole coun
ty or part of one. It restricts in
the same way any cattle shipments
from other states to Georgia points.
The sooner Georgia can be freed
of the tick, the better it will be
for the whole state; and the de
partment proposes to do its level
best to get the tick out of Georgia
at the earliest possible date.
