PERSONAL and LOCAL
Elder S. E. El itch has resigned
the care of the Pearson Baptist
church. The Tribune knows noth
ing of his future plans.
Col. G. H. Mingledorff, with his
family, is now at home in the new
bungaloo of W. L. Fiveash. The
Tribune, on behalf of the citizens
of the city, extend to them a cor
dial welcome.
The entire output of the Pearson
ginnery is being kept off the mar
ket. Farmers bring their cotton
and have it ginned, sell the seed
and pay the ginning. They put
their bale of cotton in their wagon,
and carry it back home.
Messrs. (!eo. F. MeC’ranie, Sr.,
and George Lee, of Willacoochee,
were business visitors to Pearson
last Tuesday afternoon. They
were surprised to know that our
farmers are not putting their cot
ton on the market.
Mr. R. 11. Dickerson tells the
Tribune about his pumpkin crop.
He gathered sixty pumpkins, av
eraging twenty pounds each, from
two vines, which he had planted
in the Isador Passon land just
across the street from his home.
A call meeting of the Baptist
Woman's Missionery Union will
be held at the church next Tues
day afternoon at 3 o'clock. All
members are respectfully reques
led to bo present as business of
importance requires attention.
Eugenia Aui.en, President.
Messrs. W. Patterson and 1.
,1. Owens left for Camp Gordon
Wednesday morning from Douglas,
going by way of the Atlanta, Bir
mingham & Atlantic railroad. W.
L. Fiveash is expecting lo be call
ed any day. The Tribune regrets
to see these young men go, among
the most useful young men of the
community, the first being the
most efficient cashier of Pearson
Banking Company.
If you know a good thing and
have confidence in it yourself,
your love for humanity compels
you to impart it to your friends
that which you know to be worthy
of praise. We positively tell you
that we cannot speak too highly
of Drew’s Salve in the treatment
of croup, colds, coughs, sore t hroat,
bronchitis, tonsil ills and pneumo

we, your druggist, will return your

PEARSON,
Mrs. A. M. Bailey and daughter,
of Way cross, spent the week end
in the city as a guest at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. It. H. Dickerson.
Editor Allen went to Jesup Mon
day and enjoyed the day with
friends and members of the Elev
enth District press association,
which held its regular September
meeting there.
Misses Florence Pad rick and
Clco Kirkland and Mr. Lonnie
Padrick left for Meridian, Miss.,
Monday morning to attend the
1917-18 session of the co-education
al college at that place.
Patterson's Pharmacy changed
hands Monday, owing to Mr. Pat
terson having to go to the army.
Mr. Oliver Dean, of Douglas, was
the purchaser. He bought the
stock and good will, but the build
ing remains the property of Mrs.
Patterson.
There arc more than Two Hun
dred pupils attending Pearson’s
white public school, and there are
yet some children in town of school
age who are not attending. This
should not be so, as the Tribune is
informed that there is no matricu
lation fee charged for the fall term
and there is no percept ible excuse
for t heir non-attendance.
Mrs. B. H. Tanner makes the
announcement that the annual
meeting of the Baptist Woman’s
Missionary Union of Smyrna asso
ciation will meet at Stokesville
church on Thursday morning, Oc
tober 41 h, 1917, at 9:30 o'clock. A
complete program of exercises for
the meeting will appear in next
week's Tribune.
The president and secretary of
the toffee county singing eonven
tiou request (lie Tribune to give
notice and urge everybody, and es
pecially the classes, to make prepa
tions for a great meeting at Pear
son on the fifth Sunday instant.
They suggest that each class bring
their ow n books and dinner and
make sure of having a pleasant and
successful convent ion, without pul
ting all the burden on the people.
There are obvious reasons for t his
suggestion. Let (he classes Unit
will attend notify the Secretary at
once, not later than the 28th, so
such class can be placed on the
program.
‘The Home of Bargains”
PEARSON TRIBUNE, SEPTEMBER 21,1917
Mr. W. H. Smith tells us the
stork w r as generous to him Wed
nesday night, presenting him with
twin sons, of whom their parents
are very proud. The children are
plump and strong, one weighing
just one pound more than the oth
er. The mother is getting along
splendidly.
The board of directors of Pearson
Banking Co., will make no change
in the position of cashier, because
of Mr. Patterson having to go to
the army, until after the annual
meeting of stockholders the first
Wednesday in January. Mr. W.
M. Sumner, now assistant cashier,
will be the acting cashier; Mr. W.
W. Whiddon, who has been with
the Union Banking Company at
I kniglas for some f ime, assumes the
position of bookkeeper. The Tri
bune welcomes Mr. Whiddon to
the city and (rusts he will have a
pleasant home among our people.

All over the state there is a
slackening in road building result
ing from a decreased number of
convicts. Since Georgia has be
come a dry state the courts do not
turn out convicts as they once did,
and the county convict camps have
not been able to hold their own.
The convicts have served a good
purpose in their time, but another
day will doubtless come when road
building will be of a permanent
character and done under contract.
We shall not be dependent on
convict labor. —Moultrie Observer.
