signed the position of bookkeeper
with Pearson Banking Company
and left last Monday to accept a
bookkeeper’s place with a Stone
Quarry Company in North Geor
gia. Me is succeeded at the Bank
by Mr. W. J. Tyler, who has ten
dered his resignation to the post
office department as rural mail
carrier.
Brown & Bowers’ minstrel
troupe* gave two performances here
Saturday—afternoon and evening.
The Tribune editor did not go to
see it, but is told by those who did
that it was a fairly good show.
Many people from the country at
tended both performances. At
nightfall almost every vacant
space in the city was occupied by
private conveyances, owned by
people who were here to take in
the minstrels.

again from the army, bringing

Mr. Ed Sears is at home again

traveling show business for several
years and seems to be prospering.

here and will soon begin to im

Two of Pearson’s old negro ser
vants. who were always ready to
serve you. have died within the
past ten days—Titus Kdwards and
Penny Jacobs. To show their ap
preciation of and respect for these
old people (jiiife a number of the
white people of the city attended
their funerals and saw that they
were properly put away.
Elder Williams, of Hoperton,
preached at the Baptist church
last Sunday, morning and evening.
Those who heard him were pleased
with his sermons. It is not cer
tain he will continue to serve the
church a ll pastor, owing to the
j facts that In- lives so far away, the
difficulty in getting from Soperton
to Pearson, and his general ill
i health. He so stated to the
| church.

Mrs. 11. L. Lankford was a busi
ness visitor lo Willaeooehee last
Monday.
Rev. and Mrs. E. J.. Padriek re
turned Tuesday from the annual
conference at Albany. They say
the meeting was an enjoyable one.
The Tribune had a pleasant call
from Mr. W. W. Timmons, of
Jilt on, last Friday. He was trav
eling in his car and says the roads
are sadly out of repairs everywhere.
A party of young people from
the city went out to Mr. Lovett
Harrell’s Monday night to the
earn* grinding. They report hav
ing had a most enjoyable time.
Alina, Hie 5-year old daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Will Sims, died
mi Thursday of last week and was
buried at Sweetwater the next
day. She was an exceedingly
bright child and beloved by all
who knew her. The Tribune sym

Die Sunday Schools of the city
were suspended last Sunday after
noon for a meeting at the school
auditorium in the interest of the
war Young Men's Christian As
sociation. The principal address
was by Prof. W. L. Sprouse, of
Piedmont Institute, Waycross.

Mrs. M. E. Bennett, of Millwood,
was a visitor at the home of Dr.
and Mrs. A. F. Christopher last
Tuesday.
The Folkston canning plant has
shipped two carloads of canned
sweet potatoes to market, and are
now eagerly awaiting the result of
sales.
Mr. W. W. Timmons, of Tifton,
was in the city last Friday and
made a "pop” call on the editor.
He was looking after some timber
privileges. The editor esteems
Mr. Timmons very highly as a
friend.
The boy scouts were out in force
and uniform Wednesday afternoon
and gave the "City Dads” a sam
ple of their drilling and street
cleaning. The sample was good
and may it bring on a complete
cleaning up of the st reets.

Judge <>. M. Hill, the personal
injury claim agent for the A Man
tie Coast Line railroad, of Way
cross, was in the city Tuesday.
He came to investigate the injury
sustained by Paul Kirkland and
another boy by the name of Wall
in an accident at the depot Mon
day afternoon. In getting ready
for the afternoon train going
south t he express truck was placed
too near the track, and the two
boys were- standing at; the south
end o! the truck. The locomotive
struck the truck, knocking both
boys down and otherwise jammed
them about, but so far as the Tri
bune could learn neither of them
were seriously hurt.
