He was an honor graduate of the Naval Acad emy and designer of the battleships Oregon, Indiana and Massachusetts. Since 1895 he has been a shipbuilder on his own acount. OUR SCHIOLS CROWDED. That. Brunswick is rapidly increas ing in population ia clearly shown hy the overcrowded condition of the pub lic schools. Both the primary and grammar 80110013 are crowded be yond the limit. Yesterday twenty apiications were made for admisions These were given conditional ad mission cards, subject to vacancies. Supt. Ballard suggests that parents of children now in school see that they are punctual lu their attendance and and should the pupil be compelled to be absent on acount of Illness or other cause to notify the teacher at once, and its probable duration. Also to cooperate with the grade teacher in every way possible to insure the child’s promotion. This will Insure a seat next term as ail children pro moted will have desks reserved for them. Furthermore it la not the policy of the school to continue unsat isfactory pupils on the roll, when other children are awaiting admission. Clearly the Brunswick public schools are outgrowing their present accommo dations and Income. The uoard of ed ucation has no power to tax. They can only use the funds given them. Surely some means must be provided for better acommodations and larger appropriations for the schools or else many children will be deprived of senool facility. „ License Ordinance.
