FIGHT FOR
FREE LUNCH
SOME OF THE BALOON KEEPERS
OPPOSE TO COUNCIL PASSING
ORDINANCE AGAINST IT.
The article in yesterday's News to
the effect that council would pass an
ordinance prohibiting the saloons from
serving free lunch, caused somewhat
of a stir among the "11 o’clock sports ’
and some of the saloon keepers, while
the restaurant men welcomed the
news.
It was understood at first that all
the saloon men serving free lunch
were willing that council pass the or
dinance, hut It was learned yesterday
that the movement is opposed by a
number of them who say they can see
no good reason Why such an odinance
snould be passed.
The ’’regulars’’ had a tremendous
kick coming, as one of them was
heard to remark: “Will ahev to get
me anew boarding house.”
The matter was scheduled to come
up before council last night, but on
account of other business, it was post-
IK>ned, and may be decided at the
meetin tonight
