A special from Washington says: Representative Brantley is endeav oring to Becure without the formality of a preliminary survey the Improve ment of certain portioins of the Inside route from Savannah to Fernandina. This route it seems is badly clogged in Jekyl river and what is known as the ’’Dividings." The Brunswick Board of Trade has recently adopted resolutions asking for these improve ments, and there is a petition here signed by the members of the million aires club of Jekyl Island and also by the Carnegie people asking for the pre liminary survey. On investigation Mr. Brantley discovered that no such sur vey was necessary as one was made and an estimate submitted to the Fif ty-second Congress. Capt. Gillettte es timates that 340,000 will complete this work, and Mr. Brantley has introduced a bill to appropriate that amount. In accordance with Capt. Gillette’s re commendation that the improvement to the Ocmulgee, which is being car ried on with liberal appropriation un der the continuing contract plan must be simjdy temporary unless there is an improvement in the Altamaha. which is formed by the Ocniu.gce and Oconee. Mr. Brantley has introduced a bill asking for 138,000 for the Al tamaha. He also asked for 348,000 for the Oconee, $250,000 for outer bar of Brunswick and $125,000 fur the In ner harbor.
