returned from a pleasant visit to Way

Simons, spent yesterday In Brunswick
Capt. J. M. Linn, of Pensacola, who
was with Hobson at Santiago, is in the
city visiting Mrs. Ulsch and other
relatives.

The assessors are doing good work.
They have already passed upon nearly
two million dollars worth of property,

Miss Arabella Tlson has returned

The Zinnia club held its woely
meeting at the house of Miss Gertrude
Allen on Thursday evening. Miss Al
len was assistetd in entertaining by
Miss Emily Waff. The gentlemen
friends of the club were present and
the entertainment thoroughly delight
ful.

Thß Cinch club held an unusually
pltasant meeting on Friday evening
at the residence of Capt and Mrs.
Wm. Tupper. The rooms of their
beautiful residence were tastefully
decorated and the refreshments de
lightfully dainty.
The first lady’s prize was won by
Mrs. J. S. Raymond and the first gen
tleman's by Mr. J. S. Raymond. The
ladies’ consolation was received by
Mrs. B. Whitfield, and the gentleman's
consolation by Mr. C. L. Candler.
On Monday evening Mrs. R. R. Hop
kins, president of the Daughters of
the Confederacy, entertained in honor
of the Veterans, the occasion being
the birthday celebration of R. E. Lee.
A large number of veterans with their
families and friends were present, be
sides the Daughters of the Confeder
acy.
After a program of music and an
eloquent speech by Rev. Mr. Cassels.
delightful refreshments were served.
The house was beautifully decorat
ed for the occasion.
The ladies of the Home Mission So
ciety of the McKendree church gave
a very enjoyable entertainment Thurs
day evening at the residence of Mrs.
Frank Grady. The entertainment
| was a pie-social, every guest being re
quired to bring a pie of some descrip
tion. Much merriment was occasion
ed by every advent of a pie-bearer.
Mr. Hopkins is in Thomasville, call
ed there by the death of his brother,
Mr. Frank Hopkins. Mr. Hopkins was
a machinist of the Plant Bystem R.
R. at that place and while walking
in the yard was knocked down by an
engine and killed. He was the oldest
son of Dr. Hopkins, of Thomasville,
to whom, at his time of life, the sad
death of his son is a terrible blow.
Mr. Hopkins leaves a wife to mourn
bis loss.
