HELP THE FAIR.
The Jewish fair opened last and
we sincerly hope that it will be a suc
cess in every sense of the word.
This fair is given for a good purpose
and laying aside this fact ia should be
a case of reciprocation because the
Jewish people have always been li

be treated in the same fashion.
CARNEGIE ON WAR.
“The killing of men under the
name of war." wrote Andrew Carnegie
in a letter read at the Collier dinner
at the Metrolipiaa club, Naw York
“Is the foulest blot upon humanity
today.
We have made little progress
in the ath of genuine civilization as
long as we can find no better substi
tute for the settling of international
disputes than the brutal murder of
one another. Asa general proposition
it may be stated that the nation
which refuses peaceful arbitration is
responsible for the war which ensues.
Britain, having done this in its dis
pute with the Transvaal republic, is
responsible for the extermination of
a brave and heroic Christian people.
“But let us also remember that we
are today engaged in shooting down
Christian Filipinos whose only crime
is that they believe in the declaration
of independence. Sad that both
branches of the so-called highly civil
ized race should be guilty of the most
uncivilized crimes. Let us pray that
this disgrace Is soon to pass away.
iT IS A MISTAKE.
It takes money to run a newspaper
-St. Johns, News.
What an exaggeration and a whop
per! It has been disproved a thous
and times, it is a clean case of airy
fancy.
It doesn't take money to run a
newspaper. It can run without money
It is not a business venture. It is a
charitable institution, a begging con
cern, a highway robtfer, a newspaper
is a child of the air, a creature of a
dream, it can go on and go onwben
any other concern would be in the
hands of a receiver ami wound with
cobweb* fn the windows.
It takes wind to run a newspaper;
it takes gall to run a newspaper; it
takes a scintillating, acrobatic im
agination, a half dozen white shirts
and a railroad pass to run a newspaper
Hut money! Heaven to Betsy, seven
hands round-whoever needed money
in conducting a newspaper?. Kind
words are the mediums of exchange
that do business for the editor-kind
words and social tickets. When you
see an editor with money watch him
He will be paying his Dills and dis
gracinggracing the profession. Never
give an editor money. Make him
trade it out. He likes to swap.
'then when you die after having
stood around and sneered at the ed
itor and his little paper, ho sure and
have your wife send lor three copies
by one of your weeping children, and
when she reads the generous and
touching notice about you forewarn
her to neglect to send fifteen cents to
the editor. It would overwhelm him
Money is a corrupting thing. The ed
itor knows it, and what he wants is
your heartfelt thanks. Then he can
thank his grocers.
Take your Job work to job offices
and then come and ask for halt' rates
for church notices. Get your lodge
letterheads and stationary printed out
of town, flood the editor with beauti
ful thoughts and resolutions of respect
and cards of thanks. They make such
spiey-reading, and when you pick it
up, Ailed wUu these glowing and vivid
mortuary articles, you are proud of
your local paper.
But money—scorn and filthy lucre.
Don’t let the pure, innocent editor
know anything about it. Keep that
for sordid trades people, who charge
for their wares. The editor gives his
bounty away. The lord loves a
cheerful giver. He’ll take care of the
editor. Don’t worry about the editor.
He has a charter from the state to act
as a door mat for the community.
He will get the paper out somehow,
stand up for the town and whoop it
up for you when you run for office,
and lie about your pigeon-toed daugh
ter’s turkey wedding and blow about
your big footed sons when they get a
four dollar a week job. and weep over
your shriveled soul when it is re
leased from your grasping body, and
smile at your giddy wife’s second
marriage. Don’t worry about the
editor; he’ll get on. The lord knows
: —but somehow.—Wayne (Neb.) Dem

Dyspepsia Cure
You might as well put fuel under a boiler without burning it and
expect the engine to run, as to eat food and not digest it ana expect
to keep up nourishment for your body. You must have nourishment
to live and when you cannot digest your food, Kodol Dyspepsia Cuke
will do it for you, with no aid whatever from the stomach. It con tains
exactly the same elements as Nature's digestive fluids and can’t help but
produce the same results.—David Taylor, Blind Ridge, Pa.,writes;—
“I have been afflicted for a number of years with dyspepsia and have
tried various remedies without good results but was cured by one bottle
of Kodol Dyspepsia Cuke. I cannot say too much in its favor.”
It can’t help but do you good
