Who are some of the candidates
for other state house offices? The
governorhtp race is attracting all of
the attention.
Wireless telegraphy may be al
right but there certainly is something
wrong about McKeesport’s bookless
library.
In the race for the judgship it al
ready begins to look as if that, braing
young lawyer, Sam C. Atkinson
will win.
Hobson Is going io be retired. Our
friend Dick has an eye on a congres

Guerry can make a phonograph r<v

it. When it comes to talking the Bibb
candidate does not care to “go way
hack."
The New York legislature, it is
said, will pass a bil prohibiting the
killing of birds by trap shooters. Such
a law should be upon tho statute
books of every state.
The Augusta Chronicle thinks there
is one Joseph M Terrell fighting an
other Joseph M. Terrell for governor
if all the pictures of candidates for
governor are faithful.
It has been decided by the Kansas
supreme court that opening a window
screen constitutes a "burglarious
breaking within tne meaning of the
law."

PRINCE Arne ENGLISH.
In view of the fact that Prince
Henry is to speak English during his
stay in America, . e people of Chat
tanooga need have no anxiety nor
fears of being unable to communicate
with his royal - gnness. The decis
ion of the prince and his brother, the
emperor, that he should adapt
language of tnis country while In
as its guest, has excited some oppo
sition and hostile comment from pa
pers in Germany.
IT 18 DEBERVED.
In publisning an account of Judge
Bennet's retirement from the bench,
the Waycross Herald pays the popular
Brunswick judge the following de
served tribute:
Judge Bennet’s career on the
bench has oeen most brilliant and
satisfactory. Talented beyond his
years, thoroughly versed In tne in
tricacies of the law, impartial, hon
est, just and gpnial. Such a man is
Judge J. W. Beimet. His decisions
have been approved by the people
and sustained by the supreme court.
He could have been re-elected without
opposition.
FOR THE BATTLEBHiP GEORGIA
Attention is being called by the At
lanta Journal to Mr. Porcy Burum’s
suggestion of a proper testimonial
from Georgia to her battleship name
sake. it says:
Wo observe that Mr. H. P. Durum,
a kell known citizen of Augusta, im*;
inaugurated a movement in that city
to raise money for the purchase of a
magnificent shiver service, or other
appropriate gift for the Georgia. The
Augusta newspapers endorse the en
terprise, and a bans in tuat city is
receiving subscriptions for it. This,
of couse, is not a local matter, an
never can be one. The whole state
sfloull take an interest in it and
make tho contributions for this wor
thy object as general as possible, it
is estimated that $20,000 will be need
ed to cary through this undertaking
In a way that will comport with tho
dignity of the state.
Geoigia has a population 91 two and
a quarter milllonu, and rne •cut
apiece would am.> iit to moie in mev
than will be asked for the testimonial
to the Georgia
Our people will surely raise the
amount necessary to do the state cred
it in this matter, but it is important
to begin at once the arrangements for
doing so.
The construction o the Georgia is
now far advanced and the great ship
will be completed in about a year.
Let the people of tills state l>e ready
to do their duty at the proper time
and In a creditable way.
Each new battleship that is built
for our navy is an improvement on
all that have gone before. Each as
it comes into commission carries in
its construction the greatest achieve
ments and inventions that are known;
but progress is so rapid that the
mightiest war vessel of a few years
ago will bo surpassed by the battle
ship that has yet to bo completed.
The "Georgia" will bo worthy of her
name, and Georgians shoulu, and
doubtless will, see to it that Georgia
will do the handsome thing when the
time comes.
It is said the following schedule of
prices will prevail at the operatic per
formance with which Prince Henry
wil\ be honored: Orchestra chairs.
$.10; dress circle, sls; first row in bal
cony. $12.50; rear row in galeony. sio.
and family circle, $5.
