SlrvTn, Manager, THE BRUNSWICK DAILY NEWS Shakespeare. The announced coming of Mr. Mc- Lean and Miss Tyler to the Grand on Tuesday, February 25, is of peculiar interest to the theater-going public of this city. The engagement is considered one of the most important ever secured for the local play house, and the great stars will undoubtedly be greet ed by one of the largest audiences that ever assembled in the house. Both Mr. McLean and Miss Tyler have long been reecognized as among the leading lights in the theatrical profes sion, and this season they have under taken a revival of the legitimate drama on an elaborate scale. That they have met with unbounded success is attested by the splendid houses that have greeted them in every city in which they have so far appeared, and by the enthusiastic criticisms from press and public every where. The play is elaborately produced, being magniftciently staged, correctly costumed and Interpreted by a east of all stars, headed by Mr.' McLean and Miss Tyler. Lewis Morrison Coming. in Lewis Morrison’s elaborate pre sentation of his new “Faust" much dif ficulty is experienced on one-night stands in placing the scenery, whicn is of an unusually elaborate and in tricate kind. It is therefore custom ary for the advance agent to question the local managers as to the exact measurement of the stage, height, depth and wluth. tie then notifies the stage carpenter back with the com pany, who provides accordingly. An other necessary feature is a number of trap doors irom wnlch Ilames leap, in the Brocken scene and .Satan's Imps disappear into the flames of tho lower Inferno at his command. In one western city, some seasons ago, after tha usual inquiries as to measure ments, which seemed to annoy the local manager for some unexplained reason (possibly because he “ran a dairy and didn’t know much about the opry house”), the agent asked, "How many traps have you?" “Your folks needn't wory about their clothes bq- In eat up. We don't need no traps here, there ain’t been a rat or a mouse seen in the house since we had these here cats in,” was the un expected reply. Lewis Morrison aim selr w. appear at the Grand Satur day night, as Mephisto, in a splnpdi new production of raii.it.” "The Burgomaster.” ’ The Burgomaster,” one of the best cheering comedies of recent years, is announced for at the Grand on March 4, on which occasion we may expect to see a more costly and much larger pro duction than last season. The scen ery and costumes are all new and more elaborate, and the company more eminent and much stronger, inasmuch as two distinct organizations was pre senting this merry melange last seas on, and as but one aggregation is en tour tills season the management have formed this season’s cast from the pick of the two companies and com prises Herbert Cawthorn, Eugene Sandford, Harry de Lorme, George Broderick, Edith Yerrington, Ida Haw ley, Earnest Salvator, Will Peters, Joe Nicol, Andy A. J. Murray] Madeline Wlnthrop, Sadie Stockton] and many others of equal prominence, naturally Including that merry glrley chorus of forty youthful, graceful and beautiful fascinators.
