ter Military Academy in Charleston.
Mrs. A. G. P. Dodge will visit her
daughter, mrs. A. D. Dodge, in Sa

Miss Maude Taylor recently enter
tained her friends at a charming 5-

Little Miss Dorothy Stevc-ns cele
brated her tenth birthday today. Miss
Dorothy is in good company.
Masters Archibald and Reginald
Taylor spent several days of last
week in Brunswick.

Aliss McDonald. Potter Gould, Fred
erick Stuart, and Elliott Stevens are
wearing the medals this month.

The schooner Maim Snare arrived
yesterday Horn Havana.
The schooner Wahhan, Captain
Barter, came up from St. Simon yes
torday to complete ner cargo.
The Colorado did not sail for New
York yesterday, but will leave some
time today.
A large fleet of vessels arc now due
In port. The high winds of the past
few days has probably kept, them out.
Several are also loaded and ready for
sea.
The Englisn steamer Calrnlc-'h, Can
tain D. Mitchell, will leave this morn
ing or Bilboa. Spain, with a cargo of
lumber from B. Padroso. The st,eaw>
ev will touch Norfolk. Captain Mitch
eu made many frien ,s during his stay
in the city, an ot whom will he glad
to see him when no returns to this
port.
Gave a Dance.
The Progress club tendered their
friends a delightful dance in their club
rooms last night. A large number of
the members and invited guests " ere
present an. the evening was a vow
enjoyable one.

The entertainment of the Su -cam

HELD IN THE SCROOLS
YESTERDAY.
Tho Excelsior Literary society
held a most interesting meeting yes
terday. with exercises appropriate to
Washington's birthday interspersed
with selected numbers.
The program was preceded by the
inauguration of the following newly
elected officers: President Hunter
Hopkins, vice, president Elliott Moore,
secretary Lotta Baumgartner, assist
ant secretary Clare O’Conor, treasu
rer Elliott Butts, librarian Leila
Bnnkley, assistant librarian, Haddie
McCullough. The oatn of office was
administered by the retiring presi
dent, Elliott Butts, who has just com
pleted his second term of office and
under whose management the so- j
•ioty made great progress. The pro
gram was as follows:

The Grammar school attended the

present. Appropriate exercises were

Candidates Announcing.
Announcements from all who would
like to serve Glynn will probably ap
pear in the News within the nxt lew
days, and the voters can ponder for
a tong time, as the primary does not
occur until June. By that time every
voter will be sure to know just who Is
running.
President Spencer Returns.
President Spencer of the Southern
railway, has returned to Jekyl from
Atlanta, where he has been for the
in. few days, attending the’meeting
of the Atlanta depot commission. He
will remain on Jekyl for some time.
