NOT A SOUND ARGUMENT.
The New Bedord (Mass) Standard,
referring to some recent cases i
where believers in what is known as
Christian Science nave died rather
than receive medical attention, says:
“II a man or woman wants such
treatment, there is no reason lor le
gal interference under existing laws,
and no good reason why such inter
forenee should he legalized. They
may lie making fools of themselves,
and periling their own lives—but sup
pose they are? It is a great bless
ing to have tne tree privilege ol
making a fool oi oneselt, and guile a
worth while being a martyr, for, as
some otlier causes lor which met'
have gone to their deaths."
We do not consider this position at
all sound. A man who has a wife and
children cannot he said to have tin
right to sacrifice his life, which we
will assume means his families sup
port, through either religious i ntiiu
siasm or prenjuuiee. He nas no isg.ii
to throw these helpless ones upon
their own resources or the world s
charity.
Again has a mother any moral
right to rein::- enlightened medical
nftentiou when ill, wnen. though her
refusal, she may deprive her children
of fin- greatest, thing in the world a
mother’s wonderful Inn by so doing.
Most ecitaintly she has not.
Without entering acre into a discus- j
siou of the truth or falsity ol the doc
trine of Christian Science, we affirm
that no one, more os pi ciaty a parent,
has the moral right to jeopardize their
precious and needed lives by a f.dussl
to receive medical att ntion, when
sum attention is inlii tiled.

COMING ATTRACTIONS

by the enthusiastic criticisms from

The play is elaborately produced,
being magnificiently staged, correctly
costumed and interpreted by a cast
