WASHOUT
ALL TRAINS BETWEEN BRUNS
WICK AND MACON AT A
STANDSTILL.
Ail passenger trains on the South
ern railway, between Brunswick and
Macon were at a standstill yesterday
on account of a washout near Coch
ran, and it was impossible for trains
to pass, and all traffic was stopped.
The Southern passenger which left
here yesterday morning could not pass
the washout and the passengers who
were bound for Macon and Atlanta
were compelled to return to the city.
The train from Atlanta, due here at
7:15 did not arrive until late in the
afternoon. It was necessary for the
train to branch off at Macon, use the
Central track to Albany .and come
from that city to Brunswick over the
Brunswick & Western.
All mail was greatly delayed and
it was not all in up to the hour for
closing the post office last night. The
outgoing mail was transferred at Jes
np and carried to Savannah where it
will he forwarded to its' destination.
It is understood that the washout
has not yet been sufficiently repaired
to allow the passage of trains, and
the mails will no doubt all be greatly
delayed today.
No effort was made to get freight
through, and it will probably take two
or three days to resume the regular
schedule
