Entered at the Brunswick, Ga., postothce, as second-class mail mat ter. Hon. Emory Speer has designated the Brunswick Daily News as the official organ of the United States Court, in bankruptcy proceedings, for (tiynn county. PUBLISHERS NOTICE. The News Publishing Company de sires It to be distinctly understood that all legal advertisements must be paid for in advance. We cannot afford to devote our space to such advertise ments and wait on the courts lor the money. The Quitman Free Press observes that- Mr. Terrell will now use that wood iie has been sawing to make the political pot boil. "The difference between gout and corns," says the Kansas City Star, “is often thedlfferencei between a bank account and the lack of one.’ 1 The Chattanooga News says: "The grey eagles will be royally received tiy nis majesty, the prince.” Wonder what Emperor William would think of that. A press report says: “There could be no coldness with 'Fighting Bob’ Evans tn attendance.” No, as a dis tributor of not air Bobby is equal to a whole furnace. The Birmingham News tnlnks "it is surprising that the American baud did not include ‘Tickled to Death’ in the list of airs when the prince present ed sweet A tire with the bracelet.” In an Increase In the salaries of senators and representatives will serve to keep them from adding to their income by writing for the mag azines and newspapers, the country would rejoice at such an increase. Tilt* editor of the Brewton Banner is afflicted with memories He says: “We shall never forget the torchlight procession we headed when Cleveland was elected. We burned our hands and snouted ourselves hoarse, and in less than three years found we were between the plowhandles. Oh, yes! our recollection of Grover's hard time administration is fresh and green. No more of it, thank you: let him shoot ducks.” GOOD ADVICE. At the recent negro conference at Tuskeega, Hooker Washington gave some excellent advice to his race. He told the negro to put money in his purse, to join the property holding, tax-paying class, that he nmy be respected and protected. His property Is a bond or good behavior. He becomes known as a good negro and he also becomes a voter. Booker Washington's advice at the conference covers the ground. He said, among other things: “There is something in human nature that al ways makes one man respect anoth er wno possesses property, intelli gence and strong Christian diame ter. There is nothing in politics or in any avenue of life that can begin to compare in importance just now fo the negro's securing a home and becoming a taxpayer and edu cating his children into all important occupations that are at his doors. I would ten times rather see a young man of my race graduate from col lege and go out and start a dairy farm and truck garden or poultry yard, and thereby grow independent and wealthy, than to see him start out by depending upon the exigencies of political office, for instance, for his future. The moat lasting and po tent protection that the negro can have In any part of the country is for him to become the most useful man in his community.” There is a great deal of good land in the south, and it can be acquired cheaply by industrious men. There is every opportunity open in the south to the black man who desires to become a good citizen. He can own and operate a farm in a very few years after he makes up ins mind to do so. He is adapted to ag ricultural pursuits and, as a farm owner in the south, could make him self independent. Tne advice ol Booker Washington is the best that could be given the negroes of the south. “BURGOMASTER’ COMING. Excellent Attraction Soon to Be Seen at the Grand. "The Burgomaster, ’ one of the best cheering comedies of recent years, is announced for at the Grand on March 4, on which occasion we may expect to see a more costly and much larger pro duction than last season. The scen ery and costumes are all new and more elaborate, ami the company more eminent and much stronger, inasmuch as two distinct, organizations was pre senting this merry melange last seas on, and as but one aggregation is en tour this season the management have formed this season’s cast from the pick of the two companies and com prises Herbert Cawthorn, Eugene Sandford, Harry de Lorme, George Broderick, Edith Yerrington, Ida Haw ley, Earnest Salvator, Will Peters, Joe Nice), Andy Lynan, A. .1.
