Hungttngton, W. Va.. March 5. A snow storm has been raging in southwest Virginia for 22 hours. In the Ohio valley the snow is 14 inch es deep. in' the mountainous dis trict it is 30 inches. All street car traffic is suspended in Ohio river towns. Railway traffic is greatly impeded. ’ Snow in New York. New York, March s.—Ano snow storm, which threatens to do inueii damage, started at 4 o’clock is morning and at X two inch-is had fallen, he snow was wet and heavy, and caused much inconven ience and considerable delay to traf fic on tho elevated and surface lines. On tho river it was so tnick that ferryboats were unable to run at more than naif sliced. The snow was accompanied by moderate wind. • Snow at Knoxville. Washington, March 5. —A com bined storm oi wind, snow, rain, and sleet prevailed here last night part fd today and threatened for a time to srrsume serious proportions. During the early mo’rnlng hours the wind blew from the northeast at a rate oi 26 miies an hour and considerable rain and snow fen. The storm turned into a drizzle later. Heavy in Pennsylvania. York, Pa., March s.—Tire heav iest aflbw storm of the season set in last night. All trains on the Frederick iiivTsion of the Pennsyl vania railroad are annulled. ATLANTA CONCERN SUSPENDS. W. E. Small <£. Stockbrokerage . Firm, Posts a Notice. Atlanta, March s.—'W. E. Small & Cos., a stock-brokerage concern, sus pended business this morning. Rep resentative of the firm announces that the suspension is temporary. The following is the notice posted on the boards of the concern: “On account of complications at the head office it is deemed advisable for the interests of our customers to suspend business until a full inves tigation can be made. Our indebt edness will be paid in full. Close all trades with customers on a basis of this morning’s opening." ‘ The telegram came from Nasnville, where the managers of the company now are. Fire Started Tuesday Night, but Was Not Extinguished Until Yesterday Morning. • Aiken, S. C., March 5. —One of the most disastrous ares in the history oi Aisen rased from 10:30 last night to 2 o’clock this morning and destroyed an 'entire hlocn, with the exception of two buildings, in the heart of the town. The fire origi nated in the Vernon cottage and, in spite of th ■ heroic work of the Ire tire department, was rapidly spread by a high wim. until the entire hoick on vfendletou and ..awrence stre- ts, between Lipton and Barnwell ave nues. was swept away, William C. Whitney, Lady Covatus McKenzie, and many other prominent northern visitors were out in force w ate., ng the conflagration and the excitement ran high. Several other buildings caught fire, but by m good work f citizens and the fire de partment were extinguished with ho tittle damage.' There were no fatalities. Several po -pie were injured, however, in the Sunny Side sanatorium, which was among the buildings destroyed. "The Burgomaster, a musical comedy in a prologue and two acts, was the attraction at the Grand last night and the- play pleased a large auuTeni e. '’The Burgomaser” is' one of the best attraction of the kind that has ever been presented on the local stage, and is full of catchy music, pretty songs and funny sayings. The company is an unusually large one, ami, strange to note, most of the gills an real pretty, attractive, and several of them are possessed of good voii i, especially Miss Edith Bra ford anil Miss Harriet Stauden, who were repeatedly encored by the aimience in their many pleasing spec ial?*';*.
