Emory Speer has designated the Brunswick Daily News as the official organ of the United States Court, In bankruptcy proceedings, for Giynn county. 1 1 HP I "S’’ - ~ PUBLISHERS NOTICE. The News Publishing Company de sires it to be distinctly understood that all legal advertisements must be paid far in advance. We cannot afford to devote our space to such advertise ments and wait on the courts for tho money. George (1. Folsom is getting out an excellent newspaper. it is About time for Atlanta to come torward with accusation. Tho spring crop of poetry this year is a little late. But it will come. Tho Detroit Free Press notices that "tho Infant industry follows the flag.” Mr. Long retires from the cabinet by the unanimous consent of the American people. After 10 p. m. in Brunswick a pin dropped on Newcastle can lie distinct ly heard in all parts of the city. If the Boers continue to win battles crepe will be substituted for bright silks and satin at tho coronation. The effort to get Governor Candler back into politics after -the expiration of his present term is wrong. Get tho governor alone. Hon. Simon W. Hitch announces for judge of the superior court in this is sue. Mr. Hitch has many warm friends in Glynn. The cause of public ownership of monopolies loses its most effective advocate in the death of ex-Governor John P. AltgelJ. Ho delivered an im passioned appeal for the Boers, Tues day night, in the opera 'nouse there and fell in a paralytic stroke as he was leaving the stage. There is no doubting the fact that public sentiment Is stronger than laws or governments. Tne unfortunate in dividual who ndeavors to disregard it is always the sufferer; a law with public sentiment against it may stand a thousand years, but will never be properly enforced and a government, be It ever so powerful, will fall like straw in the wind if the people as a whole are against it. "These pleas for delay, these fears that prolonged tariff agitation will in jure business, are laise," observes the Portland Oregonian (Rep.) in talking out of meeting. “This is as good a time as we shall ever have to revise the tariff; better than any other, because its iniquities grow with procrastination. The real reason the republican leaders put off tariff re form is that they can refuse nothing to tho protected trusts." Tho general regret whim comes trom all parts of the Brunswlek circuit at too determination of Judge Bonnet to retire when his present term as judge expires, is in our judgment the best evidence of the fact that Judge Bonnet has not only pleased the peo ple of the circuit in an official capac ity, but in every other way. He is not only regarded as among the atilest of Jurist in his own circuit, but in all Georgia. His administration has been clean, able and fearless, and his rec ord stands out as a brilllat example of what an honest Judge can do. We hope Judge Bonnet's political career Ims only begun. Such men are need ed in public life. LET THEM COME. The News appreciates the fact that he granting of public franchises is i serious matter, and one which is ikely to cause future generations .rouble, but we must have new insti utions and should not discourage tewcomes who select Brunswick for jusiness enterprises. The application or an electric railway system should be granted, provided the applicants :an satisfy council that they really mean business. We mean, of course, in terms just to both the city of Irunswick and the gentlemen who ask or a franchise. An electric car line will mean a great deal for the city, ind if possible let it come. THE TARIFF ISSUE. The split in the republican party m the tariff becomes more pro nounced every day. Protection is loomed. The democrats will he able to change the complexion of the house next fall on this issue. Men who strongly defended protec tion two years ago are now insisting on a reduction of duties. The abuses of the trusts are too much for them. They see that these monopolies are fostered by protection. They can find no better weapon against the trusts than reduction. Reciprocity, The handmaid of Pro tection,” has set the republicans by the ears even more than her mistress has done. The old cry that the party is in danger is likely to avail less tills year than ever before. The indepen dent voters are growing greater in number each year, especially in llie r *’'rth. There are rro.e republicans who are not afraid to vote a demo cratic ticket when the views for which the ticket stands are tlieir own. The tariff is hound to be the over shadowing issue at the next genera! elections. On It the democrats are sure to win. A man named Horn is slated for governor of the Danish West Indies. We merely wish to remark, before anyone else, gets to it. that, if elect ed, he will probably blow himself ex tensively. sajs the Rome Tribune. PLUMBING.
