The News Publishing Company de sires it to be distinctly understood that all legal advertisements must be paid tor in advance. We cannot afford to devote our space to such advertise# merits and wait on the courts for the money. Announcement. Mr. C. 11. Heavy, t'ne well known ifrunswick newspaper man, has be come associated with The News in the capacity of editor. News Publishing Cos. Work on Brunswick’s public building is progressing rapidly, and will be completed on schedule time. There are already six candidates in the field for sheriff of Wayne county, and all of them are ''hustling' for votes. Guerry says the Macon Telegraph Is whiskey soaked, and a übiquitous ex change asks if onions were not also detected? Commissioner of Aglculturo Stevens has announced his canuidacy for re election in a strong card wnlch must appeal to the people of the state. Jones, of Arkansas, may not have gained any distinction in the senate, but he will long be remarked as the monumental “elaimer” of the cen tury. Brunswick’s real estate Arris are setting a lively* pace for those of Sa vannah. when they go into that city and sell Savannah prdpert> to the value of 1800,000. Griffin adds to the list of sensations of Monday, with a duel in which a member of the legislature shot, and killed an ex-mayor and was seriously if not fatally shot himself. These affairs are always to he deplored. Col. A. E. Cochran having retired from the race lot I lie judgeship of the Brunswick circuit, leaves the con test between Col. Simon W. Hitch, or Waycross, and Judge T. A. Barker of Baxley, both are sound, aide lawyers, and either would make (he circuit a splendid judge. Mr. Ilryan in his Commoner having suggested Not man E. Mack as a good man lor the democrats to nominate tor governor of New York because ho “supported the national ticket in ISitfi," the World suggests that he now pick out a gixid demorat. who can car ry Nebraska. Those fifty-seven Get man farmers who have emigrated to Glynn county and will engage in farming, have gone to .work in dead earnest and it is a snfe prediction that they will succeed in their efforts. They are sturdy, progressive and persevering and these are the only essentials necessary to success. The action of uie. railroads in mak ing a hall rate for the cane and cassava convention should, and doubt less will have the effect of bringing immense crowds to Brunswick on that occasion. Tickets will be on sale at Savannah. Macon. Fitzgerald, Al bany, Valdosta and all intermediate points at one fare for the round trip SAMPLE OF ADVERTISING. A New York grover last week gave a sample of excellent advertising as well as a showing of the enormous business done, in the following adver tisement: “We sold in the six days 23 cai loads eggs, which means 9,200 cases of 30 dozen each, or in other words, 3,- 312,000 single eggs; enough to pro vide one egg for every man, woman and child ip Greater New York. We don’t know the hen population of our country, but with a laying capacity of one egg a day this sale of ours kept 552,000 hens busy every day last week. If placed end 10 end, the eggs we disposed of would run in a straight line over 130 miles, almost the dis tance from New York to Albany, if the cases were piled on top of each other, end to end, they would com plete a shaft 67 times as high as the' Brooklyn bridge towers.” The sale of eggs in New York was evidently equalled by the sale of flow era. A New York newspaper that interviewed the florists estimates that $1,500,000 of Easter flowers were sold, and says: "Florists declare they never had so prosperous an Eas ter trade as they have had this year. The cut flower trade of New York, great at all times and growing like the fabled beanstalk, has been at its greatest all this past week.” Roosevelt will be in Charleston to day; would it. be in place to suggest that Booker Washington should hav been in i' 1 to atteu i on the same date in order that the "ci .t.'es" may get together again, and probably have a little dining, or it may be that Roosovelt will retun vii Tu-ikeegee, and take -tipper with ire Washington household. Hon. Frank Clark, until recently a prominent figure in Florida state pol itics anil chairman or the democratic state executive committee of that state, has embarked in Journalism in the Indian Territory; establishing tire Derrick at Red Fork. He has asso ciated with him in the enterprise Hon. Milton Bryan, ex-eounty judge of Volusia county. Clark is an able man and full of ambition, and 'ne will no doubt become in time one of the political loaders of the territory. Tire Birmingham Age-Herald is working hard for a state primary, in referring to this stare it says: “The Georgia democracy quickly recognized 'the unifying and satisfying influences of the primary, it did not take them long to recognize the sovereignty oi the people, and when a state primary was asued for it was granted as a matter of course. There was no con tention whatever. No one pmposeu to deprive a single democrat of a chance to express his preferences. No one proposed to shove representatives upon him when he could act direct ly for himself. This is in Georgia, it is (uuerent in Alabama." The Albany Herald very sensibly says: “Sam Small, who is a candi date for tile legislature in Fulton county, made a speech at the Colum bia theater on Saturday night, and he spoke out on the question of regulat ing the insurance business in a way that ought to commend him to the voters of Atlanta. He said that’ he believed )the .legislature Should ’so regulate the insurance business as to do jutiee between the underwriters and the people, and that no company licensed to insure in Georgia should be permitted to overburden our people to make us losses incurred a thou sand miles from Georgia." The soon er tltis question is made an issue in file legilature. the better for the peo ple. * Valuable Property For Sale. Four six-room houses, two on Bay street, two on Oglethorpe street.
