The News Publishing Company de sires It to he distinctly understood that all legal advertisements must he paid for In advance. We cannot afford to devote our space to such advertise ments and wait on the courts for the money. The sweet girl graduate Is getting ready to make her prettiest how. The Birmingham Age-Herald says 60 hens will lay 600 dozen eggs in a year. That depends. Real estate deals are swift and fast in Brunswick. The best indication that we are forging ahead. From the present outlook the sum mer resorts in this vicinity wilt do well during the .coming season. The Atlanta Journal thinks at the \ present price of beef, hash may soon be served as dessert at yo boarding house. - X Four big real estate deals to k place •In Brunswick ■yesterday. . Others, which are now pending, will l>c closed durfng the week. Mr. Ouerry will stump the state with Sam .Tones and Lon 0. Broughton. Mr. Guerry always does the wrong thing at the wrong time. The Augusta Herald remarks: "Put ting J. Pierp Morgan to watch a com peting railroad line savors a little of putting a wolf to watch sheep. The Nashville American complains that spring ha ; bc< 11 lost in the shuf He and the year in (hat section re duced to summer, winter and au tumn. A Baltimore minister lays down this rule: 'Tf you hear any gossip about a man. discount it 9 per cent.; if you hear any about a woman dis count it 99 per cent." Columbia, and all South Carolina, paid a glowing tribute to Wade Hamp ton Sunday, when he was laid to rest in 'nls native city. The south never produced a grander man. Kev. Sam. Jones, Rev. Lon Brough ton, and Hon. Seaborn Wright an nounce that they will go on the stump for Ouerry. beginning early next month. Then la when the fur will fly. An exchange calls attention to the effect of me maxim to "speak only good of the dead.” namely, that what was "mullah obstinacy" in life, be comes "the courage of bis convictions In an obituary. The fourth son of the King of Sweden Is to renounce his pretensions to the throne In order that he may marry an American girl, and as it is only one-sixth of a chance that he has of wearing a crown, the Haver hill Hasette Is Inclined to the opinion that he probably thinks be la making a good bargain. Of course he does; a whole American girl would be worth one thance in six of a throne, or an actual'one-sixth, any day. CROVATT FOR THE SENATE. As the time for the selection of a senator to represent the fourth dis trict in the next general assemly draws near the serious importance of choosing wisely, on that occasion, sug gests itself as a timely And Import ant topic for the consideration of our citizens. Since the announcement of the two gentlemen who are now ask ing the people for their suffrage for this office, we have carefully consid ered every proposition in connection with the matter, and we are con strained to the opinion that we should exercise the game privilege In this matter of selection as is accorded to the humblest voter in the land. While wc 'nave no unpleasant criticisms for his opponent In the race, it is our hon est conviction that the best interests of the, county would be subserved in Atlanta with the Hon. Alfred J. Cro vatt as our representative in the up per bouse of the next general as sembly. In assuming this position we feel, in a measure, that we are duty hound, not only to Judge Crovatt’s opponent: In this contest, but to the general nubile ns well, to briefly outline the reasons actuating us Iu the ilrst place, it Is a well known fact that Judge Crovatt has been consistently opposed to the maintenance of the city court of Brunswick, believing, as wc do, with the large majority of the tax payers and citizens generally, that the court is an unnecessary burden and expense upon the people, and, in fact, a great or luxury than the present condition of their pockets enables them to en joy. After a careful review of the sit uation, we are satisfied that a county court, operated at a very much less expense than the present city court, would serve the ends of Justice, and transact the legal business of our cit izens, quite, as effectively and much more economically than the court op erated under the present law. In the second place, for many years past the whiskey question has been an all absorbing topic in the state senate, and the forces of local option are still lined up against the advo cates of state prohibition, all over the state, and the prohibition people have a candidate in the field for governor, and are making the fight of their life for complete control of the executive chair and both legislative houses In order to enact a state prohibition law. Brunswick, being a coast 1 city, is not iu sympathy with the state prohibi tion movement, and a very large ma jority of her citizens are well satis fied to regulate this matter for them selves, as they are now permitted to do under the present local option law. It Is a well known fact that Judge Crovatt favors the present law touching the whiskey question, and Is a devout advocate of the principle of homo rule on this and all other ques tions affecting the rights and liber ties of the people. In addition to these reasons, and others which we will suggest from time to time. Judge Crovatt is an able lawyer and a Brunswiekian whom his follow citizens have delighted to honor in the past, has served with distinction as Mayor of the city of Brunswick, os Judge of the county court, president of the board of edu cation and several times as alderman of the city, and in all of these capac ities has acquitted himself to the full and complete satisfaction of his con stituents. in conclusion, we repeat that we have nothing but the kindest com meat to pass upon Hon. W. F. Symons, the other candidate for this office. He, too, has been often honored with po sitions of trust and confidence by his people, and 'ae is a gentleman of high reputation and ability, but, as we have said before, in all candor and earnestness, we believe that the best interests of the community will be served with Judge crovatt In the sen ate, and feeling as we do we would be recreant to our conception of duty if we failed to give expression to the above line of thought.
