Hors. Emory Speer has designated the Brunswick Daily News as the official organ of the United States Court, In bankruptcy proceedings, for Giynn county. 1 1 "j *""" I ■ 1 PUBLISHERS NOTICE. The News Publishing Company de sires it to be distinctly understood that all legal advertisements must be paid for in advance. We cannot afford to devote our space to such advertise ments and wait on the courts for tbs money. The velvet bean, the cotton seed and the cassava will soon dance in the sun to make toothsome the porterhouse and the loin roast! That old market building on New castle street la an eyesore. Can’t fhq city council devise way and means for utilizing it. Candidate Guerry and the Macon Telegraph are still at outs. Guerry is a sly old duck and keeps the subject open for the benefit ol’ the free adver tising he is getting out of it. While other cities arc engaged in Hitter political contests, Brunswick is devoting herself to encouraging new factories and developing all lines of Industrial enterprises generally. When Senator Depew touches on southern elections he is not so much at home as when addressing dinners and debates aro not so easy to him as jokes. We wish him more industry and loss presumption. A novel divorce suit is on in Juliet, Mo., the man smokes cigarettes and the woman chews gum. Now that jury will hnvo a hard time deciding which of the two Is to be blamed the most in connection with the deuiul of Booker Washington of the statement tliat lie had purchased a home in Mas sachusetts, the Savannah l’ress sug gest# that tile White House is good enough for Booker ou hi* northern trips. This Is the season when the candi dates calls you by your given name, enquires about the good wife and little ones and strangely enough goes through the list seriatim and calls them each by name. But oh, what a difference after the election. From all reports Brunswick mill laiy boys won the plaudits of the peo ple at the Albany Chautauqua yester day. Our military organizations are composed of young men who can al ways be depended upon to reflect cred it upon their city, it matters not where they go. The Waycross Journal says it will not take whiskey advertisements. In our experience we have learned that money derived from whiskey ads will go as far in paying our bills as that coming from any ot..er legitimate source, ami for one we are opposed to such Tommy rot, as a few extremists are advocating on this question. As long as the great state of Georgia con tinues to put its stamp of approval, on the whiskey traffic in Georgia, so long will we encourage, whiskey advertise ments. Such sickly sentimentality as is here pointed out reai.y makes us tired. Here in Brunswick some of our best men are whiskey dealers, and while they continue to conduct their bus iness. within the scope of the law. we shall be more than happy to do business with them. SOME &REEZY WORDS. Things are getting pretty warm in Tampa’s municipal contest, and the newspapers of that city are all at the point of the dagger. Here is a sam ple of the way they talk of each other down there. The article In question is from the Tribune, and is directed at the Herald, and reads as follows: “The office-holders’ organ desires to make this a personal instead of a po litical campaign, judging from the con temptible insinuations and cowardly threats that it indulged in yesterday afternoon. If it seeks to cast asper sions on the editor of this paper or any member of the Good Government club with a view of intimidating tho Tribune from exposing the rottenness that has characterized its political parasites for the past .wo years, it is harking up the wrong tree! Nothing less than a gatling gun will do that, and if the Herald has the nerve of a I nincompoop, It will get its gun in working order. If it hasn't one, we will loan it one, providing It will comply with the other requirements on such occasions.” The Herald comes hack, brielly, but io the point, as follows: “The morning organ of the goo goos can rest assured that when The Her ald undertakes a Job it will attend to it right up to the handle, Personal ities have no place m respectable journalism, but if necessary these matters can he looked after. Will Marquis of Queenshurry rules govern? IT NOW. We see that a movement has been started in South Carolina to erect a monument to Wade Hampton. It la m honor in the bestowal of which the pe< pic of South Carolina will honor themselves. Without doubt there will be many voluntary contributions from citizens of other states. Wo feel sure that there are people in Brunswick wbo would wisli a share in the trib ute to the cavalry hero’s memory. We have but one suggestion to make in the premises, and that is strike while the iron’s hot. Don't let the movement drag along. The time to act is now. bet somebody lie appointed right away in each town and county in South Carolina to make tho canvass for subscriptions—cash subscriptions. The entire canvass of the state should be made and the fund for building the monument lie in hand in tho next thirty days. It will amount to more in this time than it will in the next thirty years If al lowed to drag itself along, waiting lor a convenient season. If the movers in the enterprise mean business let them get a move on, and push it right straight through to im mediate success. It ttiis is done the monument will be built. If it is al lowed to drag its slow lengths along until all the enthusiasm peters out it will become a source of mortification rather than honor. Build the monu ment now. Secretary Wilson came very near making good farmers of all of us. t ome again, Mr. Secretary, and per haps the political stiletto in our midst may give way to the harvest hook. Dallas received the old veterans with flame and smoke, but by comparison with tile fiery and smoky ordeals— shot laden besides—through which they passed about forty years ago, it probably did not disturb them to any great extent. And don’t you know tlie old lioys are having the time of their lives? Tuose who have uot bough, their new hats will do wen to call at .Miss oiater’s before buying elsewnere.
