The Passover Ends.
The Jewish Passover, which has
been in observance since last Monday
night, came to a close last night at
0 o’clock. The othodox Jew's observe
the custom eight days, instead of
seven, as do the reformed Jew's, and
their ceremonies will close tonight

UP TOR PAST DRIVING SUNDAY.
Two Prominent Citizens Before the
Mayor Yesterday.
Messrs. J. J. mssner and Bruiser
Brown were arraiged before the may
or at police court yesterday morning
on the charge of fast driving on the
principal streets. The mayor gave the
two gentlemen a lecture on the sub
ject and warned them not to let it
occur again or he would impose a fine
upon them.
Of late a number of citizens pay
no attention whatever to the ordi
nance prohibiting fast driving, and
come dashing down Newcastle street
as if they were in a 2.20 race. Every
body • Ise driving on the streets are
((impelled to staini aside for the
‘’swifts” and the city autnorities pro
pose to put a stop to it. They say
there are some excellent roads in the
country, and if these citizens want
to tost tiie speed of their animals
they should go outside of the city
limits.
It is safe to say that the next one
arraigned on the charge of fast driv
ing will be fined.
