GEORGIA WILL HAVE
SHORT PEACH CROP
COMMISSIONER STEVENS IS VERY
BLUE OVER THE GENERAL CROP
OUTs-OOK IN THE STATE.
Commissioner of Agriculture O. B.
Stevens, who has been over the state
to a Considerable extent within the
last few weeks, says the peach crop
will unquestionably be cut much
short* r than the people have had any
ideas- tor up to the present.
In a circular just issued he says:
• General farm crops are also suffer
ing severely, as a result of dry weath
er in some sections. In some parts
of Georgia the planting has not yet
been completed, while in othes
the crops are weeks behind where j
they ere last year,
i cannot see hew we can have a large
cotton crop this year. In fact I do not
believe, under the present conditions,
that it is possible.
"We will have less than half a crop
| this year. The prospects are not;
.near so favorable as last year. In
j addition to all that the peaches have
j suffered up to the present time, the
curculio is now attacking them in al
most every part of the state.”
