Hon. Emorv Speer has designated the Brunswick Daily News as ths official organ of the United States Court, In bankruptcy proceedings, for Glynn county. PUBLISHERS NOTICE. The News Publishing Company de sires it to bs distinctly understood that all lsgal advertisements must be paid fer in advance. We cannot afford to devote our space to such advertise ments and wait on the courts for the money. L’ 1 ".. ... The man who enters the political arena must expect disappointments. Mr. Bryan says he out of politics. Wo thought this some time ago. it ir really animttsing to aee Ilanna pose as the workingmnu s friend. The Cumberland hote'J, opens this year under the very best prospects. America was llrsl to extend aid to the unforttunate people of Martini que. You should not only take your home paper J>ut you should pay for it as well. The merchant who does not adver tise cannot expect to keep his clerks busy. The man who is always hunting for trouble generally linds it. To his sor row. it Is strange that alter an election everybody was with the winning can didate. Judge Parker seems to lie in the lead for .lodge Bonnet s place. He is a good man. Everybody should attend the meet ingof Dr. Munhall today. Encourage a good cause. The juicy melon will soon be here ami the colored folk are already looking happy. Ca.pt. Wiley Williams will surely defeat Tom Eason. The people know them both. Thais all. Congressman Fleming will doubtless defeat Mr. Hardwick. Mr Fleming is an able man and deserves rcolectioii. The business men are not taking the proper interest, in the Board of Trade. This organization has done a great deal for Brunswick and should bei encouraged. GUERRY WILL LOSE. There seems to be no doubt but that Dupont Guerry, of Bibb county, cand didate. for Governor, will be defeated by one of the largest majorities in the history of Georgia democracy. When Mr. Guerry first started his campaign lie had an excellent chance to win but this chance lias been lost and the man lias only himseif to lilnmq. His campaign lias been one of slander and lie cannot expect the people of Georgia to elect a man who prances about the state continually making charges which he cannot prove and denouncing men who have been honored by state house offices. Mr. Guerry thinks the prohibition element is strong and will carry him id vlctoy but he is badly mistaken. We know the sentiment against li quor is stronger now than than at any previous time in thm history of the state but Mr. Guerry cannot ride into office by their votes because they know him too well. Ho has had •several chances to nelp the prohibi tion party -efore but he did not do it and now the prohibition party, even if they could, are not, in our judg ment going to ride him in,o the gub ernatorial chair. A NEW INDUSTRY. The launching of the tug It. B. Tupper yesterday makes the second boat of the kind built here for W. M. Tupper & company within the past few months and we predict that the time Is not far distant when Bruns will see a launching or two every month. There is no doubt of the fact that this is an ideal point for shipbuilding and sooner or later those interested in this great industry will find it out and this means a great now in dustry for this section. There is no doubt but that tills can be made great shipbuilding port and the fact that two handsome craft have been built here lately proves our assertion true in every sense of the wod. The firm of Tupper and compute deserve great credit for taking the lead in a movement which mean's for this section prosperity and an indus try which will give work to thousands and put this city where she should he. Here is luck to the Tupper and may the, dividends from this Brunswick built boat to large and of' ,n. • BUSINESS AMERICAN ART. “The idea of busine.--;; in n country that bus reached the bright of Us de velopment is u dry us dust nifaii." says Hutchins Iliipgoud in Alnsice's. “it is tlie miserable sysicm of helping what one bus, a systi m in v. ii.G-Ii the b mp> r u:. ent ami tlie imagination do not piny a part. Tlie Am.-rb-uh, liowcvi r. puts Imagination into bm ino . Busin-ss Is tlie art of this country. To Iho Ameri can of affairs tin-re are in les work ex citement, charm and color. To him it is not a matter of mniliemuiics, but of Hie creative imagination. Great proc esses. great inventions, great corpora tions the organization of such tilings requires genius. “Nobody is stupider, more avaricious iiinl more economical in a small way Hum a French pea.ant or a German liaiisfrnu. Nobody Is le.- i avaricious ami more economical in a Pig way than n great Amerienii inventor, liiiam-h-i --or business man. Through ids brains production Peeonn a cheaper and eme ■ quentiy more abundant, and more good to the common people thereby accrues than by ill! the small savings evi r made since civilization !"• an. It Is Pefter In lie able to make than to save, and to make miieli n large out lay in money, energy and brains is necessary. To save pennies is a sign of commercial Incompetence and national decline. “When an Individual or a muion la gins a system of boui.okocping on 11 small scale, it is a sign Hint Hie life blood Is ebbing. Old people, drier and less resourceful than young people, are notoriously more i-eononiii-nl. They, like old nations, want to bang on to what they have rather than strive for more. The wisdom of the French peasant consists In keeping down his expendi ture and tin- size of his family to a point where the nation its a whole is weakened. As Bacon said. 'lie Unit hath a slate to repair may not despise small tilings,’ and perhaps Hie ' • of the country is the cause r;i I‘l t ■j 1 Hie effect of French economy. Anyway tlie two tilings hang closely together ” ODD FRUITS OF JAVA. “The fruits of Java." write-- a corre spondent of tlie I'Ulsburg Dispatch, “form an Interesting study in them selves, there are so many and of such strange varieties. The most common is the strangest of all. It is called tho durian and grows like a huge exerts t-eiio- from the trunk of a tree some what similar to our pear tree. The fruit, which is pear shaped, grows to a great size, often several feel in length, and has u yellow skin, rough like a pineapple. The most i-cntarkal.dc thing about tlie durian, however, is its odor. To say you can smell it a block off is putliug it mildly. A combination of aged eggs and I lie ripest cheese could not be compared with it. When you Freak open tlie bull to find what can lie the cause of all Ibis disturbance to. your olfactory nerves and foul a great cluster of snow while kernels which taste like some strangely delicious cus-j turd, your amazement is greater still. Another strange fruit is the serpent' fruit, so called from ttie fact that its skin is the exact counterpart of that of a snake. There are the potuoioe, like a great orange; the potato fruit, which resembles Hint vegetable in all but its fine flavor; the custard apple, with a yellow custardlike ptllp, having a ruth-1 er decided taste of turpentine; the pup ! p;o. like a melon growing on a tree; tlie great jack fruit, of rather a coarse Ha voc; a small yellow fruit, wit li an un pronounceable native name, incased in a great bur like it chestnut, and a hun dred other varieties, witli none but na tive and scientific names, seme good, some indifferent and some entirely un palatable to any but a native. The or ange is rather a scarce fruit, but tlie pineapple and banana are abundant I and delicious, especially the former. I There are more than twenty different! varieties of bananas native to Java.” If you want your bicycle repaired right bring it to an experienced work JUan. B.
