The News Publishing Company de sires it to be distinctly understood that all legal advertisements must be paid for in advance. We cannot afford to devote our space to such advertise ments and wait on the courts for the money. Thrtpj are many things for the grand l jury to fnvoflUgfit)*, The Hummer girl neuson is not here, yet. but will lie in a short time, ■ Never ask a newspaper to leave out legitimate items. It is unjust. There is plenty of work In Bruns wick and there is no excuse for ion ing. Candidate Estlll moves about the state in a regular hustling fash, 1011. Those who are the easiest to satis fy are generally possessors of the most. ' i | t Mr. Bryan seems to be more suc cessful as a journalist than as a pol ition. Cuba as a nation must remember and not get too gay. Uncle Sam Ims a Hiring tied to that independence. All the gubernatorial candidates claim to bo "gainglng"groimd. Voters must be increasing at a rapid rate iu Georgia right about now. Governor is soon to retire to private life. Well the governor has bail a good long run of it and he should lie willing to play quits. The candiddates for city offices in Tampa are railing each other some hard names. The Times calls one of the would-be office hollies a “bog t'nlef.” Senator Gorman thinks the dem ocrats can get all the’ campaign is sues thi\v need without going to tin* Philippines, The beef trust, for in stance. | f It. is said that it will require three years to get the case against the beef trust through the courts. In the mean time the people can either starve or live without meat. ■Subscribers, or rather some of them seem to lie under the impression that it does not take any money to publish the News. They arej certainly un der the wrong impression. CONGRESSMAN CRUMPACKER Congressman Crum packer, who is so anxious to have the representation in the south cut down because he Is of the opinion that the negroes are in some way mistreated in the matter of franchise has now found it conven ient to decline an invitation to visit a large plantation in Alabama for the purpose of coming in actual contact with the negro question. He knows nothing about it and dues not desire to put brakes on his enthu siasm by any access of knowledge in the premises. He is another one of those long range theorist, who re fuse or are afraid !to meet the facts face to face. He has a soultul sym pathy for tho downtrodden negro as the colorel individual appears to him in his dreams and his phantasies and he wantH to know no other. Tho Alabama planter who invited the congressional delegation to visit him works some 400 hands and has, what we assume to be, a fair aver age plantation where the condition of the negro, as it actually exists, might be studied to adantage. But knowledge and iniormatlon are just what Crum packer dots not want.. Cold facts would destroy his pretty (story. Noth withstanding Crumpacker and his friends, the negroes seem to be along very well and in most cases are satisfied and happy. Pure California Claret, A. A.
