THE BRUNSWICK NEWS. VOLUME 1; NUMBER 201. RED HOT SENSATION IN THE CONVENTION CAME YESTERDAY ALL ABOUT A HEWS STORY -♦ — GIVEN TO THE PRESS ABOUT THE ELECTION HELD BY THE ASSOCIATION AT THE .MEET ING TUESDAY. NAME OF INFORMANT WAS FUR NISHED BY NEWSPAPER MAN AND DEVELOPMENTS ARE NOW LOOKED FOR. The session of the Georgia phai macists yesterday developed some red hot sensations. It came about in toe denunciation of the informant of the correspondent m several out of town papers and Tie' News, regarding an alleged nomina tion for a member of the state board of pharmacist. This correspondent and The News wore informed by l>r. George F. Payne that J. G. Dodson, of Aluerteua, was nominated a member of the statui board over Dr. W. S. Elkin. of Atlanta. On the floor of the convention yes terday Dr. Elkin and others denoun ced the informant in tins most em phatic and larid terms. When the press man was requested to name ills informant hit promptly did so. Dr. Payne was present at the demiucitory sp leches but failed to exlionorate the press man who lie had gotten to publish the reportt. Tlift d|iiggists 'wi'i'l' considerably wrought. up and wanted to ox pel the man who gave the correspondent the information. They got so hot in the collar over the matter that the newly elected president. John 11. Polhliill, had to call them down repeatedly and call their attention to the fact that they were) gentlemen and could not afford to indulge in such language and talk on the floor of the convent ion. The whole thing reminded one of “a hot time in the old town to night" and it was well into the night before the matter cooled down. Personal difficulties were avoided but the convention borderedon them for some minutes. ac the closing hour last night everything was in fairly good shape but Dr. Elkin and his friends s till had blood in their eyes. They now know from whom the report came and can seek satisfaction accordingly. Reveals a Great Secret. Coins of Rarly Days. The early Biblical references to pieces of silver do not in the original convey the idea of coins, but of weights, shekels. The Mosaic “oblation to God” was a half shekel, and the shekel Is ex plained by Josephus as equal to four Athenian drachmae of a value of about 55V& eents in American money. The first Jewish coinage under authority was, it is believed, struck by Simon the Maccabee, about the year 140 B. C. it consisted of shekels and half shekels. This coinage bad its value signified upon it, “Shekel Israel,” in Samaritan characters. The Dress Is the Tiling.
