The News Publishing Company de sires It to be distinctly understood that all legal advertisements must be paid for In advance. We cannot afford to devote our space to such advertise ments and wait on the courts for the money. ■uegua—wi .. jih iliivo you ever seen or heard of a dumb woman.? That Cuban government is about the greatest bluff on record. Mr. Tapp, Ouerry’s campaign man agon-, Ih doing some claimlnin himself. The Macon News does not can* any thing about the tiigh price of beef because Georgia peaches will soon be in. Women are taking the placed of men every day but we think the line man’s Job is still safe. The public seems to have lost inter est in prize) fighting. The brutal practice gluould atop. The grand jury is composed of rep resentative citizens and the News is sure they will do good work. The public can soon expect to see headlines In the papers likiy this: "trouble in Cuba”. "Cuban cabinet crisis.” Congressman Crumpacker is one of those individuals who absolutely refuses to be convinced that he is wrong. (e|neral Wood, the pet of the ad ministration. will now proceed to Washington and get a juicy plum. It is waiting for 'aim. The Charleston exposition will soon eloeev It has been a great show and (lie people of Charleston deserve till honor for its success. Everybody who possibly can should go to Si. Simon on the excursion of the Catholjic church tonignt. It is given <mt for a good cause. it now looks like there will be a gen eral scramble for the mayorality. We do not mind that provided it its as clean as the recent primary. Since the state campaign started,li quor and its sale have been the par amount issues and it seems tnat the fi ght has lieoti fought and will end on those lines. The country will no doubt read Mr. Bryan's story of the Cuban inaug uration. He knows how to write such even if he does not occupy the posi tion of leading man. Work on the Brunswick & Birming ham railroad is progessing rapidly it will not be long before throng'd trains will be on to the Iron City by the B. & B. route. THEY ARE NOT WANTED. A New York theatrical manager is desirous of bringing to this country Musolino. the Italian bandit, for csx aibition purposes. Musolino is a human tiger. He has shed mood for the pure joy of killing and he is a robber, an inhuman brute a slayer of women and children and it is just possible that the Italian au orities will terminate his career and fit him for the grave. Men of his stamp are not wanted in America for exhibition or any other purposes. It is only a morbid cur osity which would cause one to pay to see this brute. We have too many criminals In this country to import any. We have no doubt but that weak men and foolish, women would be sure to Hock to see such a man and this probably accounts for the fact i'nat GThatrical managers all over the ccoun try endeavor to get such characters. AN UNFORTUNATE AFFAIR. The aikir in Atlanta last Saturday in which four officers and. as many negroes lost their lives is most deplor able, but the Immediate responsibility for it rests entirely upon the negroes not. upon the negro race generally hut on a few despeadoes who defied the law and resisted arrest after hav ing committed a very grave offence The negroes as a race do not engage in such lawlessness and they are not as a rule In sympathy with the lawless characters Which infest the cities of the south. Therefore no general im portance or significance should lie at tached to this sad and deplorable af fair. It was not a race riot, as 'stated by a number of papers, bus simply a clash between indolent, worthless ne groes that is likely to occur in any city at any time whose this class is permitted to exist. There is in every southern city scores of negroes of this class, ami although the great ma jority of tthe race may be law-abiding, trouble may be expected in any city at almost any time from the compara tively few idle desperadoes who place little value on their own lives and still less upon those ol others. It is tiiis class which the authorities must crush trouble is kept down. Laws to suppress the idling, loafing negro can not be too strict nor to rigidly en forced.
