Hon. Emory Bpe#r has designated the Brunswick Daily News as the official organ of -the United Btates Qvurt, In bankruptcy proceedings, for (won county. j.mi >i mu JJMt. j it ■ - ■ PUBLIBHERS NOTICE. Tbe News Publishing Company de sires It to be distinctly understood that all legal advertisements must be paid for In advance. We cannot afford to devote our space to such advertise ments and wait on the courts for the money. About the warmest thing we know of is a Savannah election. Wu Tang Fing made quite a hit In Georgia. Wu Is an able man. While Oglethorpe bay rises and falls Brunswick is commercially safe. Governor Candler has been pain fully silent on the) coming primary. The “boggy Bay’’ is an appropriate name for Brunswick’s wholesale street. The Cumberland hotel opens today and tint outlook for a good srtuon is indeed bright. Tlie gubernatorial election Is now only a few day off and then we can get down to business again. The body of that Chicage. woman who talked herself to death should be embalmed and exhibited. H. M. Atkinson, the Atlanta street railway magnate, is combining various lumber concerns in Georgia. “The day of the political boss is over because the people have become too intellient” says the Rome Tri bune. The wealthy old woman of the north who married the poor but handsome young man of the south is dead. We Suppose the latter's name is good at the banks. The Atlanta Journal will begin the publication of & Sunday paper today! and it is safe to say that it will be a good one. It is said that Ohauncey Depew has made only one si>oeteh since hi* mar riage. Perhaps Mrs, Depew does the talking now. If Farmer Smith had entered the race for governor only one tiling would have been necessary—the votes of ail the Smiths in Georgia. A Chicage man has been arrested on the charge of robbing his mother in-law. He should hq acquitted and presented with a chrome. A great and growing state like our Georgia should not be hunting the money lender* continually. There is something wrong somewhere. The Macon Telegraph makes the point that a heavy, vote should be cast in the primary for congressmen, even though there is no opposition in ntiiei {l*tileto in Georgia. The pri tuary means the election and a heavy poll in the primary would pre vent the Crumpacker people from getting material for cutting Mow southern representation. SOME BRUNBWICK STATISTICS. The following la from the Manufac turers’ Record of Mar 25, and will be of Interest to Brunswickians gen erally: The board of trade of Brunswick, Ga., is working upon practical lines. Its meetngs are no mere formalities. They are intended to develop public sentiment and to concentrate public energies upon the upbuilding of the city. The hoard does not confine its efforts to the city limits, but, as has been indicated in the came and cas sava conventions held under its aus pices, looks into the development of the country tributary to it as a means to its own growth. An ev idence of the alertness of the board of trade is the handsome brochure which it has just issued, setting forth in artistic manner and with regard for ready reference, facts about Buns wick and Glynn county for the use of the exporter, the Importer, the investor, the manufacturer, the mer chant, ae fruit and truck grower, the stock-raiser, the dairyman and the agriculturist. The (population of Brunswick grew from 2,891 in 1880 to 9,081 in 1900, and lias increased 25 per cent, in the) past two years. Its port operations in 1901 represented values of $26,404,083, the outward shipments employing 584 vessels with 498,050 tonnage, in addition to numerous sailing vessels carrying goods to Europe, Aaia, Africa, South America, Central America and the Wi'rtt, Indies, there la a steamship line| to principal European ports, with two lines of coastwise steamers connecting at Brunswick with the Southern Railway, the Riant System and the Brunswick and Birmingham Railway. The port of Brunswick is a land-lockc|d harbor with a depth of water in its ship channel across the ocean bar at the open sea to the docks of twenty-five and onehaif feet at or dinary high tide. These signllleant faets, taken from the text of the brochure illustrated with a score of allbertypea, are the bead basis for a presentation of the commercial. In dustrial! and agricultural opportuni ties of Brunswick and its surround ings. The suggestions as to these are arranged for ready reference, and the volume which is being circulated, not only; ’by the board of tradei, but by railroad companies and business con cerns, ought to be produettive of wonderful benefits for Brunswick. The Charleston News and Courier suggests that we send a statute of Frederick Funston, of Kansas, to Ger niiamy to offset the gift of the) other Frederick. Statistics furnished the, Chicago Tribune shows that already in this year volcanic eruptions have destroy ed 48,450 lives, storms 704, tornadoes 416, cyclones 220, floods 33, avalanca ea 228, tidal waves 103, snow slides 39, and water spouts 12, making a total of 50,505 lives destroyed by agencies over which man lias no con trol within the| space of five months.
