Emorv Speer has designated the Brunswick Daily News as the official organ of the United State* Court, In bankruptcy proceeding*, for O-tynn county. ' ■ ill 1 ■ ' "’"'***' PUBLISHERS NOTICE. The News Publishing Company de sires It to be distinctly understood that all legal advertisements must be paid for In advance. We cannot afford to devote our space to such advertise ments aud wait on the courts for the money,. There will be a hot time In Georgia tomorrow. Great Britain’s minister to Culm got there flfst. President Palma, of (Juba, gets $25,000 a year. It will take several ear loads of ice to cool Dupont Guerry. Mont Pelee was nothing compared with the' election in Tampa. There will be some "crushed -spirits in Georgia tomorrow 'night. It looks very much like Hanna can get the republican nomination if he. wants it. Pfcirpont Morgan Is going to Italy nn,l the Atlanta Journal hopes he will corner the hand organ grinders—and kill ’em. Dupont Guerry was drawn around Atlanta by a teafh of wmie horses. It is plainly visible that he wants no ‘Mark horses." **‘ • A letter written by President Lin coln to General Grant on April 30. 1864. sold at auction in New York last week for $1,051). Maybe Candidate Guerry is one of those men who had rather be right than governor.—Atlanta Journal. He is not the former and the latter is out of the question. The Wall street failures, says an exchange, are due to a disregard of Commodore Vanderbilt's rule—" Don't buy what you cannot pay for or sell what you haven't got.” It is said that t'ae United States government means to secure the t round at North Bend, Ohio, upon " hull stands the tomb of William jleury Harrison, so that it can b? transformed Into a burial place In-fit tins an x president of this great re public. IMPROVING BAY STREET. The News is delighted to see that Bay stree is receiving some attention from the city council because it was sorely in need of it. Wo understand that ihe Bruns wiclt & Birmingham railroad will shortly extend its street track from Monk south and the fact that the street would necrvssarity have to be torn up caussed C'apt. Newiuan to de- Jay the improvements, but he no* proi>ose& to put Bay in first-class shape and the worts has already started. • DRAWING TO A CI-OSE. The primary for governor tyid state house officers occurs Thursday, and one the most spirited campaigns in the history of Georgia democracy will end. exception of some little mudslinging by Dupont Guerry, the contest has been clean and toe little bitterness in our party will soon be forgotten. The News can cay noth ing against, cither of the three gentle tlpmen who are asking the people of Georgia to place~thcm in the cxectit tive chair. It is true that, we differ with Mr. Guerry on several matters but we cannot say a word against his character or integrity. He is a crank on some subjects, but he is anything but a bad man. Either Estill or Terrell will make a good governor and the nomination .of one of these gentlemen will satisfy us and our section. IN BAD SHAPE. A number of the sidewalk:* in t’ne business section fo the: city are in bad condition and tho News desires to direct the attention of the city council to the ordinance requiring owners to keep the walks in front of their property in good condition. On Newcastle, Monk and Bay, there are sidewalks which are sorely in need of the brick mason, and we sincerely uoifoauu eqt nuo [[(/w [punoa edoq of the proper persons to their walks and if nejeessary enforce the law. Wo cannot afford to have had side walks. A Vunrou er merchant is reporte! In a Montreal paper a3 saying that never before was the lumber aad shingle 1 i-stnosß as active in British Columbia as it is now. He reports that o,vor one dozen new shingle mills have recently been erected in the vicinity of Vancouver and twenty others in "different pnrts of the prov ince. Ife saiu that the estimate of last year's production was 800.000.0.0 shingles, two-thirds of which were sent to the United States. "This may seem strange when it is known that there is a duty of 30 .cents a thousand on those manufactured In Canada, and proves thtat they must he much superior to those turned out In the mills of Washinton and Ore gon." It does not prove anything of the sort but merely that British Co lumbia shingle men can get timber from their government so much cheaper than the shingle men of the United States can secure their raw material that they can afford to pay the 30-cent duty.
