Brunswick golfers are giving or
learning a lesson in the nrt in Savan
nah today.
Tho Atlanta grocers returned from
Cumberland, laat night and report an
unusually pleasant stay on the island.
The members of the Waycross dis
trict conference are In session in this
city and we wish them a pleasant ns
well as a successful meeting.
The papers of the state are saying
some very nice things in connection
with Judge J. W. Bonnet for the com
ing vacancy, on the supreme court
bench.
The Maritime News and Review, a
new publication, of Baltimore, devot
ed exclusively to the shipping interest
of the county has reached us and it
is a very creditable paper.
Col. Toomer, of Waycross, con
tested the primary in his county ami
second count showed that he hail
been defeated worse than the lirst.
Pleasant A. Stovall, the talented
editor of the Savannah Press, is being
mentioned for the speakership of the
Georgia legislature. The toga could
not lie placed in more worthy hands.
The board of trade held a meeting
yesterday but as usual the attendance
was not as large as it should have
been, it is a great pity the Brunswick
business men cannot learn the good
to be derived from the encouragement
of such an organization.
Announcement, is made elsewhere in
ttiis issue of the coming fourth of
July; celebration at St. Simon this
year The management if the steam
boat lines, are going to see to it that
the occasion will eclipse anything of
the kind in the past.
Those who heard Jonn Temple
Graves at the Grand last night will
certainly agree with us when we pro
nounce hint one of the most eloquent
men on the lecture plaform of the
present age. Mr. Graves has a charm
ing individuality, goes to the very
heart of his subject, is graceful in dc
livery and is talented to the very high
e*t degree. His lecture last night
was, in every sense of the word, a
literary gem.
Hon. Edwin Brobston nas announc

he consent to allow the use of his
name in connection with the coming
race for mayor. Mr. Brobston says ne

BREAD OF COTTON SEED MEAL.
Dr. L. E. Starr, of Wilcox county),
Alabama, has made a series of experi
ments in the uses of cotton seed
meal for bread-making purpose?, as
a result of which he finds that tnree
parts of corn meal and one part of
cotton seed meal make a very good
article of bread. The Progressive Era,
published at Camden, thus describes
the new process.
•'The doctor’s plan is to mix about
one peck of cotton seed with three
pecks of corn and grind the mixture
in the ordinary grist mill. When run
through a sieve ail the hulls, etc.,
together with the bran, is caught, and
it is claimed that the cotton seen corn J
meal is' just as pure and healthy as j
corn meal or fiour, and that it ha? j
the advantage of already having
enough grease in it to cook it. The
bread Is hardly as dark as that made
from the red cob corn, and can scarce
ly, be told from the ordinary bread.”
In commenting upon tiiis discovery,
the Birmingham Age-Herald think-;
"if palatable and nntricious bread
can be made from corn and cotton
seed, both of which the south pro
duces, the latter abundantly and the
former in in good quantities, there
should lie no trouble in producing a
home supply of bread.”
It is true that the south should tic
able, under such circumstances, to
produce a home supply of bread. The
south is aide to do ttiis anyway, if
the southern planters will only make
the proper effort. They have done
so in the past and ttiey can do so
again. While Dr. Starr is confident
that he has discovered a method by,
which a palatable, wholesome and
cheap bread can be. produced, it. is
doubtful if the people will take very
largely to the use of it, at least for
some time to come.
An offer lias been made to (lie city

its way clear to accept the proposition

Women and Jewels.
Jewels, candy, powers, man—that
is the order of a woman's preferences.
Jewels form a magnet of mighty pow
er to the average woman. Even that
greatest of all jewels, health, is often
ruined in the strenuous efforts to make
or save the money to purchase them.
If a woman wni risk her health to
get a covoted gem, men let her fortify
herself against tho lnslduous conse
quences of coughs, colds aud bronchia
Uffectlons by the regular uso of Dr.
Boschoe’s German Syrup. It will
promptly arrest consumption in its
early stages and heal tha affected
lungs and bronchial tubes and drive
the dread disease from the system,
it is not a cure-all, but it is a certain
cure for coughs, colds and all bron
chial troubles. You can get Dr. G.
G. Green's reliable remedies at Smith's
Pharmacy, W. J. Butts’.

mothers and daughters, and
if they would use more intel

would find that the doctors’
prescriptions do not perform
the many cures they are given
credit for.
“In consulting with my
druggist he advised McElree’s
Wine of Cardui and Thed-
ford's Black-Draught, and so I took it
and have every reason to thank him for
anew life opened up to me with restored
health, and it only took three months to
cure me.”
You may secure the same relief as
M iss Snyder, if you take Wine of t ’ar-lui
as she took it. Thedford’s Black-
Draught is tlie companion medicine of
M ine of Oardui and it is a liver and
bowel regulator which assists greatly
in effecting a cure. If you take these
medicines according to directions, the
relief and cure is simple. Some cases
are cured quickly and others take longer
because the disease lias run longer.
Remember how Miss Snyder took Wine
of Oardui and has health. The same
medicines are offered you to-day.
