(SUNDAY MORNING Ice Boxes, Refrigerators White Mountain Refrigeratore ha ve a perfect system of cold air cir culation founded on scientific principles. If a refrigerator is not built just right it will not take long for the extra ice consumed to eat up the cost. White Mountain Refrigerators have duplex circulation and are thor oughly clean. Scientific investigation demosnfrates that dry air is abso lutely essential to the proper preservation of food, for with dampness de composition Immediately sets in and food becomes spoiled. All ordinary refrigerators have a defective system of circulation, which causes this dampness; but by our system the air passe® completely over the ice, under the ice, and around the ice, not only giving this air the longest possible contact with the ice, but enabling it to discharge the impure qualities gathered from the provision chamber in sxich a manner that the refriger ator gets the full benefit of the purifying qualities of the lee. In our re frigerators meats and all perishable artlpk* fan be preserved for a long space of time. , * - , C. JVIeGfIRVEY, 316 Newcastle Street. Buckingham palace, from which the gorgeous coronation pageant will start for Westminster abbey and to which it will return after Edward VII. has been crowned, is to be the future home of England’s king. Marlborough House, so long his residence, will probably go to the Prince of Wales. I >urlug Queen Victoria’s reign, espe cially after the death of the prince con sort, the silence and somberness of Buckingham were rarely broken by vis its of her late majesty, but with the coming of Edward VII. and his queen the stately palace has been reawakened and transformed. F<sr some months n large force of workmen Ims been at work preparing for tile reception of the new monarch. One huge wing has boon entirely re modeled, its old fashioned realms giv ing place to more modern and useful apartments. Decorative artists hnve been busily at work In beautifying the king's private apartments. Among other Improvements in the new wing are several elevators, and the building throughout is now lighted with elec tricity. Buckingham palace stands on the site of the mansion built in 1705 on c-rown land for .loliii Sheffield, duke of Buckinghamshire. George 111. pur chased the property from the natural son of the duke. Sir Charles Sheffield, in 1702, and settled it upon Queen Charlotte. In those days it was known as the Queen’s House. In 1823 George VI. commissioned his favorite architect, Nash, to practically rebuild the Queen's House and make of it an abode more in keeping with his somewhat florid taste. When Queen Victoria came to the throne, Blore, the architect, vastly improved the struc ture. Buckingham palace, as it exists to day, is but little known to King Ed ward's subjects outside that small circle which includes the court, the THIiONEUOOJt, BUCKINGHAM I'ALACK. diplomats, tlio favored guests of state bn!!, concert or garden party, and the debutantes who crowd there for pres entation. To them the beautiful gar dens that stretch to Hyde Park corner, between Grosvenor place and Consti tution hill, are familiar, as well as the carving and gilding, the mirrors and the marbles. The throneroom, where presenta tions take place, saw but little change during the long rule of Vic toria the Good. The crimson of tho walls, the heavy gilding of tho celling, the great crystal chandeliers, are al most as they were in the forties, though electric light has superseded candies, and dyeing her later years tile queen occupied a chair of state instead of tho more imposing throne before which it was placed. Tlie throneroom, which is only some sixty feet long, has a tine frieze by Stothnrd illustrating the wars of the roses, A room more worthy of admi ration than the throneroom is the real ly beautiful drawing, room, whose pil lars of imitation onyx with their richly gilt capitals have a tine effect against the hangings and upholstery of blue brocade. Here are life size portraits of the queen and the prince consort painted soon after their marriage, and here above the doorway is a flue paint ing of throe royal princesses in powder by Gainsborough. The room familiar to the guests at state balls and concerts is large, hand some and heavy looking. A large or gan occupies one end, in front of which a temporary orchestra finds a place on the occasion of a state concert. By daylight it is a somewhat gloomy apartment, but when the great gilt standards with their swarms of elec tric lights flash ou uniforms, orders aud dazzling Jewels the scene is bril liant enough. Tlie picture gallery with its flue col lection, principally of Dutch art, is well worthy of attention. Rembrandt, Vandyke, Hobbema, Rubens, Ruysdael, Teniers. Cuyp, Ostade. Terburgh. Ge rard Pouw, Faul Potter, all are repre sented in tbe collection. Buckingham palace will in the future be the London abode of England’s king, and the bails and salons so long silent will again be tbe scene of the brilliant functions of a royal court THE BRUNBWIOK DAILY NEWS, FACE HUj^OURS Pimples, Blackheads, Red, Rough, Oily Skin Prevented by (kttan* VSBtf “ Millions of Pjsot-t.b trsn CtrrictmA Boa?, assisted by Cuticura Ointment, tor preserving, purifying, ami beautifying the Skin, for cleansing tho scalp of crusts, scales, and dandruff, and the stopping of falling hair, for softening, whitening, and soothing red, rough, and sore hands, for baby rashes, itohings, and chafing-, and for all the purposes of the toilet, hath, and nursery.
