The News Publishing Company de sires it to be distinctly understood that all legal advertisements must be paid for in advance. We cannot afford to devote our space to such advertise ments and wait on the courts for the money. The News, desires the subscribers who are behind in their subscriptions to come up and pay at once as their papers will-be discontinued unless a settlement is made. It is unfair and unjust to make The News send you a paper and then when the collector calls refuse to pay for it. Those Paterson anarchists were go ing into the murder business on t'no wholesale plan. Grover Cleveland is, growing groat er by degrees, facetiously remarks the Nashville News, Roosevelt seems to have Very effec tually tied that padlock about the* mouth of Freddie Fuuston, of Ivan sas. II seems that Col. Cochran, of Way crow, kinder stole a march on the hoys and went out on n still haunt for that judgeship appointment.. After Thursday tne coronation ex erehses will have been a thing of the past aiul the average tidegraph edi tor Will lie in a bad way of stumps ns it were. Watierson may be a very brilliant Journalist and a thoroughly learned man. hut he lias a poor idea of the proper way to bring about harmony in trie rants of the 'democratic party. Congressman Maddox, of Georgia, seems to have let his safety valve get away from him in the house on Saturday last. His theme was engag log. however, it matters not whether the scene was auspicious er not. Itrunswiek and Glynn county are way behind the rest of the state in the way that educational matters are eared for and it is to he hoped that the powers that lie will very soon awake to the importance of this sub ject. Albany is all torn up over the ques tion of bond issuer, and the matter is in court on a suit brought by the citizens to prevent the Issuance of bonds after an election had been held by the people and decided in favor of bonds. This is rather a strange pro feeding. it is announced from Atlanta that tile Gaily News, of that city, will tie gin publication on August Ith. .lo'iiii Temple Graves is to he editor of tne paper and the staff is well ‘selected. We see no reason wtiy the N, v, s should easily take rank as one of ihe best papers in the southern states. Taere is a movement on foot among some of the business men. a3 will he seen by reference to another column of today's istsue of The News, to have the next municipal ticket nom inated by a large mass meeting or old time convention. Whether or not the plan will carry remains to he seen. j S, ’ 5L THE BEGINNING. Mr. Richardson, of Tennessee, tho democratic leader of the house, made a speech before that body the other day which was a severe arraignment of the republican party for its fail ure to redeem the pledges it made to the people. Although in the nature of a political speech, it was a timely deliverance. Congress is now on the eve of adjournment after the most extravagant session in the history of the country, and without having af forded any relief to the people from the burdens which have borne so heavily upon thorn. The trusts, the tariff and the attendant evils which have been laid upon tne people by the republican party have not been dealt with according to the promises made in the republican platform. Instead the republican majority in congress has gone on from day to day not only not making any effortt to remedy or abate these evils, but blocking the efforts that have been juit fortfl by the democratic minority, which has been powerless against the over whelming odds in both houses as wei! as against the opposition in tthe White Houae. Mr. Richardson r<->#-tl - these facts and they will be scattered broadcast over the country. The people will be J fully informed as to the conduct of i the republican majority which had the ! power to give them relief from bur densome taxation and trust prices, j ami yet failed to do so after having pledged itself to do it. It is true that proceed iQgH have been instituted in some of the courts to enjoin the trusls from robbing the people, but If any good has come of these proceedings no one baa- felt It. while no effort whatever hip; been made to relieve the weight of tariff taxation. Mr. Richardson s speech is only tho beginning. Such speeches will be blade throughout the country during the aproaehltig campaign. Down with the trusts and tariff reform will bo the democratic slogan, and a united democracy? ought to win a great vie tory In tho coming elections. * Old man Morgan seems to favor anv port in a storm on the canal hill. Two more days, and the average Englishman will be able to breathe again. Judge Rmory Speer has gone hack at Congressman Bartlett in his usually forcible manner. The indications are that Mr. Bartlett was a little too.liasty in hla denunciation of every thing in sight in connection with the United States court in Georgia. It is to lie hope,) that the city coun. til will accept the offer of Mr 11. S’. McCrary for that old market build mg on Newcastle street. It is an eye sore and wo are sure that the public will tie glad when it is removed from the general view. Only one voter in si‘ven in Oonnoe ! Cent saw fit to go to the polls to cast Ills ballot for or against tne new con stitution. And the new constitution was defeated. Thi cause s the New York World to think that after this tile able United State:; Senators from Connecticut will probably go a little slower in their remarks about the small vote in the southern states. Hle.su your soul, Mr. World, you can't laze a New England Pharisee that way. Davenport's cleaning and pressing club. May wear a greasy and wrink led suit? See Davenport. Phone 141-2. Po-.aiocs.
