to come up and pay at once as their

It is to be hoped that the Brunswick

•The Farmers’ National Congress
which Is to be. held In Macon in Oc

important agricultural meetings ever
held in the south. The farming inter
est from every available standpoint
will be discussed. Glynn county far

the movement and should by ail
means be represented in the congress.
The colored brother is not wanted

In a mill in that town and soon a pt

THE ADVERTISING BUSINESS.
It is somewhat surprising to the
average person,to be told that the ad
vertising business Is the greatest busi
ness in the world. That this is a fact
is shown by statistics.
.ns nearly as it is possible to esti
mate there is expended for adver
tising in the United States, about
$600,000,000 a year. This is an im
mense amount of money—a sura
whose magnitude cannot be grasped
when it is noted that the entire an
uual wheat crop of the is
worth but $319,000,000, the produc
tion of pig Iron but $91,000,000 and
that all the gold produced in the
United States amounts to but $2lO,
000,000. It has just been pointed out
by; an eminent . authority that the
proper handling of this vast amount
of advertising money and the proper
preparation, making and placing of
advertising offers the most seductive
and brilliantly profitable occupation
for young men and women, The best
of it is that the field is not crowded
-that there Is an actual dearth of
people who really understand the ad
vertising business. It is not. a hard
business to learn, and can be learned
quite inexpensively. One of the beau
ties of it is that you earn while you
learn, thus paying expenses as you
go along.
The advertising business pays very
largo salaries and the work is digni
fied and pleasant. Even those who
do not contemplate going into the
business should by all means study
the art, as it will become demonstrat
ed that business success is impossi
ble ‘without good fidveittisiing, and
that those who forge to the front and
make fortunes are those who halve
learned the principles of advertising
and how lo apply them. Public atten
tlon has been called to these matters
by Mr. Charles Austin Bates, the well
known advertising specialist, Vander
bilt building, New York, who lias
formulated a plan for the thorough
teaching of the advertising business
in all Its branches, and which plan,
he says, will be explained without
cost to anybody who is interested.
J. Pierppnt Morgan Is said to be
troubled with an affection of the eyes.
Still he is managing to get posses
sion of about everything in sight, and,
as a facetious exchange remarks, ho
does not appear to be overlooking
anything of importance.
The talk of the great summer hotel
at St. Simon has been so often Indulg
ed In by the press and the people of
Brunswick as well, that we approach
the subject, with fear and trembling,
as it, were. But at the same time The
News has it authentically that the
matter has been under advisement
by certain Brunswick people and their
associates for several weeks, and that
il has been definitely decided to build
the hotel on the Island and have it
ready for occupation for the next
summer season.
Of, late the centre of fine stage of
finance has been occupied not by suen
familiar names as Rockfeller. Carnegie
and Morgan but by two new stars
Mrs. Miriam Gerger and Mr. Betrarn
Cutler. Mrs. Berger has enjoined the
streel trust from issuing the trlf
ling amount of $25,000,000 of bonds,
and incidentally delays Mr. Morgan’s
firm in collecting a beggarly commis
sion of $10,000,000 In cash. For a man
to oppose Mr. Morgan's financial plans
is considered in the financial world
sufficient to erect a pedistal or in
