PUBLISHERS NOTICE.
The News Publishing Company de
sires it to be distinctly understood that
all legal advertisements must be paid
for In advance. We cannot afford to
devote our space to such advertise
ments and wait on the courts for the
money.
The News desires the subscribers
who are behind in their subscriptions
to come up and pay at once as their
papers will be discontinued unless a
settlement is made. It is unfair and
unjust to make The News send you
a paper and then when the collector
calls refuse to pay for it.
Ah usual, Tampa Is having a warm
election today.
Mr. Bryan's paper, the Commoner,
has horn enlarged.
There will ho no slaughter in the
Eleventh district tills time.
Senator Mel.aurin may he an honest
‘Thinker,” but lie should think again.
California furnishes a 'double of

As usual, the ‘Tie,” “scoundrel,"
etc., plays an Important part in the
South Carolina campaign.
If all report he true, it is indeed
hard to realise that Embassador Clay
ton. tlie American representative to
Mexico, is a southerner.
The recent shoot at Macon was to
all appearances a splendid success,
and seems to li:|ve been ready enjoy
ed by those .who participated.
Florida is in the throes of a state
a mil county election today and tomor
row the usual number of "I told you
so,” will be gening in their work.
The now Atlanta paper starts next
month We wish it success, but, this
does not keep ns from alluding to the
fart that it is up against a strong prop
osition.
A Detroit family, the mother of

"Let wo forget, we say it jet " What
is t'ne city going to do with hat old

t’lean streets should boa matter of
civic pride, just as a clean dwelling
is a matter of domestic pride and a

but it is possible to good, hard work

GEORGIA PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
“The best efforts of the party are
hereby pledged to a revision of our
public school laws, so as to make the
common school system more effective
and more in accord with the necessi
ties of the rural schools throughout
the state.”—Georgia Demoreratic plat
form.
Tnere is nothing which more de
serves the hearty co-operation of all
the people of the state than that of
educating in the children of the stale.
No man can have as diear a concep
tion of the duties of citizenship as he
ought to have so long as he remains
In ignorance, and it is the duty of ev
etry; one who has lived in the light
of learning and education to bend his
energies toward the uplifting and bet
terment of the condition of the land.
To give to all an education should
tie the highest, aim and ambition of
our great stale. An eductecd, enlight
ened and cultured citizen, hip lias
possibilities which no one not so
eqttippod cannot hope to have. The
Georgia democracy stands pledged to
a revision of the public school laws of
the state, so as to make the common
school system more effective and more
in accord with the needs of the rural
schools This is where the public
school system needs extension and
revision more than In any other di
rection. The cities as a rule are bless
ed witli good school systems, while the
country districts are lacking in 'such
facilities. The Georgia democracy
has done well in thus clearly stating
its position upon so Important a mat
ter one that i's so far reaching in its
results- and every citizen of the state
should give this pledge ids most care
till and earnest support.
A BILL OF PARTICULARS.
A young woman of Chicago has sued
a young man named Sprung for fail
ing to fulfill a promise of marriage.
She lays the sum of damages at SIOO.-
000. This is an unusually large claim
for salts of tlie kind.
The ease Ih peculiar in another re
spent. The attorney for the plaintiff
rendered a hill of particulars in the
declaration which she tiled. It was
a debtor account only, with no cred
its! Tlie following are the items:
To compensation for morlidea
tion, pain and wounded af
feetions $25,0()0
To compensation for injury to
prospects in life, affections
and loss of social position., 25,(100
To compensation for altered so
rial position 25,000
To money expended and incur
red expenses in preparing for
marriage 25,000
if the young woman should gain
the suit and it should become a pre
cedent. it will make the matter of
jilting a girt too costly to tamper
with. Instead. Sprung and men of his
class will let the marriage occur, and
then turn .to the and I orce court for the
annulment.
But this case is at least interesting
for its bill of particulars.
The democratic party of Georgia
lias pledged itself to a liberal consid
eration of the pbblie sehool question
and it is to be hoped that the coming
legislature will redeem these pledges
in a substantial fashion.
Much interest is manifested in the
south in the statement connected with
a shipment of sixty head of Texan cat
tle through Pensacola, Fla., to South
Africa, that should the shipment turn
out well it is the purpose of one Texan
iirm alone to ship at least 50,000 head
to be used in restocking the depleted
veldts of South Africa.
The Florida State Horticultural Co
eietv will appoint a committee on for
estry composed of the strongest men
in the organization to further protect
ive fostering and reconstructive leg
islation for the benefit of the forests
of the state, and Georgia should do
likewise.
Notice.
Offers will be received for renting
the Grand Opera housi! for the ensu
ing season at the office of the Bruns
wick Bank and Trust Company, up
to and including the 16th. inst.

Yes, August Flower still lias tVie
largest sale of any medh ine in the
civilized world. Your mothers* and
grandmothers never thought of us
ing anything else for indigestion or
Idliioiisness. Doctors were scarce,
and they seldom heard of appendicitis,
nervous prostration or heart, failure,
etc. They used Augu.se Flower to
clean out the system and stop fer

the action of the liver, Stimulate the
nervous and organic action of the
system, andw that is all they took
when feeling dull and had with head,
