PUBLISHERS NOTICE.
The News Publishing Company de
sires It to be distinctly understood that
all legal advertisements must be paid
for in advance. We cannot afTord to
devote our space to such advertise
ments and wait on tbe courts for the
money*
The Newa desires the subscribers
who are behind in their subscriptions
to come up and pay at once as their
papers will be discontinued unless a
settlement is made. It is unfair and
unjust to make The News send you
a paper and then when the collector
calls refuse to pay for it.

Tnnt anti trust talk of Roosevelt is
a mamniouth hlult. Teddy is going to
be a candidate for president, and can
didates usually need campaign funds.
President Roosevelt tells his cabi
net to get out and hustle. They must
do some campaign work because Jim
Griggs has t.ie republican party on the
run.
After all, it seems that King Ed
ward is in very had shape, and the
book makers are now offering to wa
ger at reasonable odds that the king
will never live to he crowned.
A St. Joseph paper claims that there
is a family of eigut in that city living
on $1 a week and eating beef every
day. It is getting so you can't believe
more than half you read in the news
papers.
The hack inspection law recently
adopted by Atlanta ts a good one and
other Georgia cities should follow the
example. In Brunswick some of the
old rattletraps are enough to make
even a town-hater bliisn, and when the
traveling public U forced to ride in
these rigs. It Is certainly not a good
fit for Brunswick.
the yohe-strong case and A
MORAL.
It is not a very pretty story—the t
of May Yohe and Capt. Strong—but it
points a powerful moral. Here was a
young man of excellent family, splen
did breeding, acknowledged ability,
ample means. The world must have
looked brignt to him as ho entered ma
turity. He did not have to work or
wait for an opportunity. He had at
ills command what most mortals
wouid regard as a sort of mortgago
on a happy existence. He was the
object of envy to many of thoso less
favored by. fortune. Yet with it all he
has made a mess of his life.
As for May Yohe, the glitter of the
stage lights made the world assume
an unnatural phase for her. it had to
lie champagne or nothing. When the
fizz, was gone the desolateness must
have been unbearable. There are
many in the world like her. Perhaps
they have at some time or other tiour
ish! high ambition.-.. They may have
ha., uouie folks" in the old time wao
rejoiced in their lightheartedness,
grieved with them over the restrict
ions of poverty, siniledMvlien they as
sorted' a determination to "make a
name for themselves," prayed wnen
they entered tin: stage uoor. Hero all
was changed. The artificiality of the
life bred forgetfulness of the simple
good percepts gathered at I lie home
fireside. Men with money, and the
time and Inclination to spend it fool
ishly, took the place of the sweet
hearted triends of their youth They
were intoxicated with flattery, dazzled
with the display of wealth. The devil
Iniil chosen the very weapons to still
tneir clogging consciences.
'I uen marriage—brillant. may lie,
from the standpoint of tneir youthful
ntid material ambitions- maybe no
marriage at all.
But idle divine spark of love was
not there to cement the union. Then
divorce or separation may lie neithei
—and a final casting to the winds ol
all propriety.
This is the sort of tiling that makes
people ask: is marriage a failure?
Hut what a sorry basis tor such a
miserable doubt! Is marriage a fail
uro? The answer .s in me wide null -
ing dyes of that dimpled bundle In the
cradle. Marriage a failure? Ask th I
young mother us siie croons over her
first born. Asa the white faced little
woman in black over there as, she
kisses tlie cheeks of iior stalwart son
and .sends him to the world to conquer,
"evil is lost but you, Mary," chokes the
gray-hatred victim of a business fail
ure. An arm steals about s neck and
a wrinkled hand strokes his brow, ami
the sweetest lips he ever knew Whis
pered words oi soultul sympathy and
courage in his ear. Ask him about
marriage.
But for the Yokes and the Strongs.
and all the rest of that sort, e,
tiling is a failure.
rile butterfly hues have faded? The
stm has lost its warmth, the air its
ozone. The birds have forgotten itow
to sing, Nature now to adorn herself.
Tis all a dreary, bleak November
day; the serpent has found a paradise
- it mA planted its fangs deep into its
happiness, and till is dark—-so dark.
