MORE INTEREST NEEDED.
A Civic League is Almost a Necessity
Now.
Has the civic league idea died of in
action? It is unfortunate, indeed, if
this be the case, as oar city streets
and squares are badly in need of at
tenl iju from some sourse. Union
street is an eye-sore with its tall
weeds and rank unkept grass, where
is the city mower? It would seem an
easy; thing for the authorities to en
force it use occasionally, at least on
Union street where grass was planted
and some effort made to render it
attractive.
Wnat has become of the Saw against
throwing watermelon hinds on the
streets? Is that also defunct? Cit
izens report that streets ami lanes
all over the city are made unsightly
aud malodorous by decaying rinds
that lie there in piles.
lias Brunswick any garbage wag
ons? Tmere is loud and vigorous
complaint from one end oi town to
tue other concerning the length of
time garbage is left at the back gates
and in alley ways. Dead weeds, melon
rinds, tree limits, the weekly garbage
hage from the kitchen, all stand wait
ing for the advent of the trash wagon,
until the air is reeking with the odor
of decaying vegetable matter, or un
til the citizen in desperation, hires a
private "garbage gatherer’’ or con
verts his back yard into a temporary
crematory.
These things are a disgrace and
slum.,, he remedied.
