The News Publishing Company de sires it to ho distinctly understood that all iejsl adrerttsements must be paid for ip advance, tt'e cannot afford to ■levels our space to such advertise ments and wait on the courts for the money. The republicans .lcarly lovo the la boring man—until after election. If your Nows Is stopped, you know the reason -that bfll you owe us. An exchange says now is the time to advertise. It is always that time. Anyway, .Tim Griggs has the repub licans, 'hustling, and they had better hoop at it, too. .1. P. Morgan has returned from Europe, and we may now expect some ’’gigantic" news. VVm. O. Whitney prefers race horses to politics. Guess the former are more profitable. A Missourian, Jim I’lgg, drank two quarts of whiskey. A case of a man living up to his name. The News is glad to say tnat work lias started on Iho fiber factory. Such industries make large cities. It is gratifying to note me large number oi handsome residences which are now in course of construction in aii parts of Brunswick. Se far the coal dealers nave had no shortage, but if tiro strike contin ues many great factories, etc., will lie compelled !o shut down. The Albany Herald wants to know If Bussell Sage's friendship for the la boring man is the first fruit of Mark Hamm's missionary work. The Atlantic Coast Line pay checks have been distribuetd and it is need less to say that the many employes of the big system are happy. The Public Ledger is growing real sarcastic. It asserts .hat tire Ameri can people 1 have had a long vacation, but that Chatraeoy Depew is now com ing home. Mrs. Del rich has sufficiently recov ered from i.er great grief lor the deati of her brother, Charles Pair, to get out a search warrant for his will, says Inc Macon News. The Now York World says: ‘The ap proaching wedding of Pres -it Grant's granddaughter to the cousin of President fioosevelt is the first ap proach this country has had to a pres idential dynasty since tiro days of the Adamses.” .tames K. Jones was (he only do mo era tie senator who went bacu on .no democratic platform wntea no himself prepared, and voted f r the Panama canal; and it is a curious coincidence that Janies K. Jones is the only dem oeiatic senator who is to have a place on the Panama commission. Harper’s Weekly, the paper that ma ligned the south during too reconstruc tion days, is getting out what it ealls "a southern commercial edition." and asking southern cities and towns to buy advertising space. Wo Sincerely hope that southerners will give this “southern industrial edition” exactly what it deserves —the cold shoulder. A HARD WORLD, THIS. is lumber more precious than life? Failure on toe part of employes of Rafhbone, Hair & Ridgeway Lumber | Company, of Chicago, to assist a drowning man resulted in the victim's <V:ath Wednesday afternoon of last week. The man was upset while rowing a skiff opposite the lumber yard. He shouted to a number of laborers to throw him a board. Several of the men started to comply, when the fore man rushed upon the scene and or dered that no lumber oe thrown into tne water. A moment later the vic tim sank. This is an extreme instance. The foreman who refused the board tlial would nave saved a man murdered that man. And yet, if you look audit you, you will find that same spirit that refus ed to help the Chicago unfortunate rampant. The mere plank that would save many a soul Is withheld. Thou sanffs ask for bread to whom is given a stone. There Is danger of the almighty dol lar becoming the American jugger naut. INTERESTING REPORT. Tne annual report of John R Wil lie, chief of the secret service of the United States government, has recent ly been issued.
