If you want file News you will have to pay your subscription bill. Mr. Schwab seems to be in no (treat hurry about throwing up tils million dollar job. Fail is coming right along but we hope winter will wait until the coal strike ends. "The government must govern tho trusts,”- Roosevelt, Ami he winked the other eye. South Carolina must have another primary. Wo are, Indeed, sorry for the Palmetto slate. From past actions Teddy should make his campaign speeches In rag lime. Me consistent. The ofliee of president will he like any other old job if many more like Roosevelt gets there. hero is no politics in Georgia at present. Mils is one way of account ing for our great commercial strides. And now they are threatening to form a circus trust. This trust busi ness is getting right, next to us now sure enough. II Is said tliai the St. Louis exposi tion will be the greatest in our 'his tory. The government, had better be gin preparations to pay the losses. Not. while Roosevelt and family are in (lie white house will file newspapers worry about '.'big items.” There is al ways a scare head in the family. We would rather see a dozen sailing vessels in port than twice tiiat. num ber of American steamships. The latter seldom leave any money here. \ farmer in North Carolina had to sell his cows because “corn was so.” A farmer who has to buy corn should sell his farm he is In the wrong bust ness. From the way Governor Candler talks he seems to lie fond of politics and we can’t, blame the governor, be cause the voters have "certainly been good to him.” Those who leave Brunswick to seek their tort lines elsewhere invariably iiar'li the conclusion that (Ills is the best place after ail and like toe cal. they will come back. Emperor William has put tor' ban on cheap weddings by oruering that mi oilleor in his army may marry un less lie receives a salary of $1,125 a year and oas an additional income of $275, The National Farmer's Convention, which is (o l>e held in Macon this month, will probably be the largest and most representative giTtheriiig ever held in Georgia and the News expects some good results from this convention. WORST OF MEN HATERS. The Worst man hater who has yet come to light has been founa at Vine land. N. J. She will not let a man come about her, or in her bouse. She baa entirely dispensed with the male creature. The New York Sun says that Mrs. Sarah jane Griffith, of Vine land, made an awful row some years g go when her nusuand left her. No man, she declared, should ever set foot in her house. She has kept the vow and shown great ingenuity in do ing so. She wanted a house built ac cording to her own design and her vow prevented her from hiring men folks to do the Job. So she is build ing the house herself. Sue is the architect, the digger of the cellar, tin mason, t'he carpenter, the plasterer, the roofer. She can do everything that Is needful for house building. Great with hammer and trowel and fearless on the scaffold, she is equal ly great In making Imitations of Mow ers and fruit. In fact, she seems to be the real female Crichton and can do well anything to which she sets her hand, if she were oil a desert Island she would get along much bet ter than Mr. Crusoe did; and If every uody else In the world were wiped out by a cataslysm, impavidam ferlentru inae, she wouldn't turn a hair. She would be self supporting and comfor table still. Give honor unto Mrs. Sarah Jane Griffith, the accomplished and independent. And notice that men can be dispensed wttu at a pllicli. THE COTTON CROP. Members of the Cotton Stales Asso- elation of Commissioners of Agricul ture have turned in an estimate of the growing crop of cotton. These estimates are, of course, sub ject lo weather conditions during September, and are based on great de terioration Mint they believe hns taken (dace in a number of cotton Stales during the latter half of August. Tne total estimate Is for 9,713,394 hales as compared witli 9,952,762 bales ginned last year. The following table shows the esti mate for this year nnd tne yield last yea r: State. 1902. 3901. Governor Candler and ttie prison commissioners are determined to urge upon the coming legislature the neces sity of abolishing all tho private mis demeanor convict camps, requiring the counties to work their convicts on the public roads. The New York Sun says that the advice of Adolph Benjamin to liis fel low Jews to give up the dream of Zionism and concentrate their strength in this country instead of Palestine, doesn't seem to be needed by them, for already they are coming here in numbers so great that the Jew ish population in New York has grown from about 45,000 in 4881 to over 600,000 tu 1902.
