Emory Bpeer has designated the Brunswick Daily News as the official organ of the United States Court, In bankruptcy proceedings, for Giyna oounty. '(mSEi PUBLISHERS NOTICE. The News Publishing Company de sires It to be distinctly understood that all legal advertisements must be paid for In advance. We cannot afford to devote our Bpace to such advertise ments and wait on the courts for the money. The Weather. Fair and warmer. ENCOURAGING BOYS TO STEAL. The News 1h surprised at some of the people In Brunswick who have been encouraging its carriers to steal. Some of the so-called best eittens nave been taking the paper from the boys, paying them ten cents per week an.l aiding the youngsters In keeping the fact from the business olliee. Such a content ptablt thief is beneath the no tice of decent people ami right here the News wants to say that It will spend the price of fen years subscrip tion for absolute proof to convict one of those who 'have been encouraging the youth to steal. We have discharged the hoys who have been serving subscribers of their own, and we are glad In Say that these who get the paper now, get it in the proper way*- through the business office. I’nss up t'nc Panama, tt has had its •lays. On i'ii and CJaynor seem to lie hav ing a delightful time on —other peo ple's money. Strange things happen. The recent South Carolina primary passed off Without billed shed Tlie coal strike in really doing some good anyway. (Jives the newspapers something to write about. Governor Candler will soon retire as Georgia's chief executive and we sincerely hope our new governor will he an Improvement. Henry Wattorson has been Jumping on the New York four hundred. We will wager dollars to doughnuts that what Mr. Watterson says Is true. The Brunswick News of Sunday. September 7. would do cred.i to a city twice the size of Brunswick.— ICx Congressman Bussell's Bainbridge, Argus. 'Pile fact that many of the naval store factors are removing from this an.l a few other states to Florida does not surpriee any person who will look at (he situation in a sensible light, it is simply a ease or the middle man following the operator and it is cer tainly anything but poor business Judgment because there are so many advantages. Then again, the Florida railroads pu.i for Florida ports while, our railroads have pet schemes ot their own in other parts of the coun try. it is not only getting, but ~as reached a point where Georgia ]K>rts cannot compete with those of Florida aud the railroads are Cue cause of it. A BUYER’S GUIDE. Toe fall season is on in earnest now and the wide-awake merchant is figur ing on a good business. We all ex pect it, but make some of it by buying advertising space in the Sunday News. It will be a buyer’s guide and investment in advertising space wlh pay not less than one hundred per cent. Remember the circulation of the Sunday News is not confined to Brunswick and Glynn county, but it extends all over South Georgia. Get your ad. in early and then good dis play and position Is guaranteed. IT NEEDS DEVELOPMENT. We often hear Brunswickians say “We have no back country," but this is a mistake of the worst kind. Wo have a back county—fertile land and reasonably good roads, hut we need farms and until wc are successful in Inducing farmers to locate in this section we may change the "we have no back county," expression and in its stead say “we nave the back county but it is not cultivated." The Nows has been urging the establishment Of canning factories, and we le-ipne they won id come if the farmer would make an effort to raise the products to be canned, and we Lank this the easiest thing In the world to do. The News Is satisfied that if the fertility of our land is investigated by practical farmers it. will only lie a short time before we can boast of our developoa back country. A CURIOUS PROPOSITION. A very curious proposition, accord ing to reports, says the Macon Tele graph, lias been made on behalf oi the coal operators to the strikers. Toe men arc asked to return to woil without conditions or agreements and then present a list of tie grievances will ho considered and if a satisfactory understanding he not reached within a certain time there will he recourse to arbitration. Finally, u tnc arbttra tors rule In a way to displease fTic men they can strike again. it is difficult to believe that such a proposal has been seriously mam*. Strikers are not likely to surrender u response to such Indefinite promises unless they are convinced that ey have failed, and such a proposition is apt to convince them, on the ton trary, that they have succeeded, am that the operators are obstinate, re quirltig a confession of defeat In re turn for a promise to grant all rea sonable demands. The operators nave hitherto said there were no reasona ble demands and that arbitration -would not be permitted, i lie above proposal therefore, if made, would of course Imply surrender, and an open willingness to grant concessions, a public announcement of the terms the operators are willing to make, would be more honorable and dignifieu. The reluctance of the operator:, to seem to yiold an im-h or in agree to arbitrate can readily he understood it they doubt the good faith of the un ions, and this appears to be the case. According to the statement of John Markle, the miners influenced by President Mitchell, broke faun with G. M. Markle & Cos. in 1900. Mr. Mar kle says that alter great patience and years of effort he finally iiumci-,1 his miners, numbering several thousand, to live up to an arbitration agreement which both parties signed. But when the strike of 1900 came Mitchell in duced them to join and deliberately) broke faith with the Markles, although the latter urged them to '.submit their grievances and choose aritrators ae cording to the method previously ar ranged. It is said that MitcnelL. nas never given a satisfactory reason for this action. This old howl about the supreme court judges being overworked should stop. Too many laywers are after that vacancy and lawyers usually do not chase work.
