BRANTLEY’S GOOD GOSPEL.
We have had occasion frequently to
commend the wise action ami counsel
of Hon. W. G. Brantley, who honors
Georgia as the representative in con
gress of her eleventh district.
Only a few days ago we commended
u s clear and convincing exposure of
the weakness and delusiveness of
President Roosevelt’s proposed plan
of controlling the trusts by the slow
and uncertain method of a constitu
tional amendment.
At the conclusion of that admirable
interview. Mr. Brantley roaoe an ab
rupt departure from his former lise
to say:
"There is a matter in which I feel a
more vital and immediate interest, it
is the building of good roans through
out the state, if they were construc
ted generally and the farmer In the
country placed in easy communica
tion with the towns, his financial con
dition would be more largely improv
ed than by any solution of the trust
evil, as it at present exists, that could
be invented or applied.”
These are the words of a practical
statesman arid business man.
Mr. Brantley has proved himself
both In the Georgia legislature and the
congress of the United State's a man
upon whom his own district, his state
and the country at large can rely for
the advoratey of good principles, for
adherence to policies at once sound
and progressive.
The record of this able young Geor
gian indicates that there is a great fu
ture in store for him. Atlanta .Jour

THE CURFEW LAW.
The curfew law has ~oen and is
now being adopted by a number of
towns and cities and with good results.
The law as generally adopted prove
dos that children must not. be seen
on the streets at night .alter 9 o’clock
unless they are accompanied by par
ents, guardians, or other adults.
Discussing the general effect so far
as noted The Savannah News says
that It has been decidedly beneficial.
Only those parents object who do no,
want to be bothered with their ehil
dren in the house of evenings. They
prefer to send them out. on the streets
to amuse themselves after their own
fashion rather than hove them make
a racket around the house. r l here
are some parents, too, who simply do
not care what their children do. or
what sort of company they keep. They
permit their offspring to run wild,
both day and night, and neither think
nor care anything about the conse
quences until the children got info
trouble. Nor is this gross careless
ness confined to one race. White par
ents as well as black are guilty of it.
In all probability tr a truthful poll
of the chafngang could be taken it
would be found that three out of four
of those on it were led into evil way?
from loafing on the streets at nignt.
In no devil's workshop is more more
mischief done than in the gang of
boys that meet in a vacant lot t>r on
a corner at night. In such gang the
seeds of vice and corruption are sown
which later give a harvest of sin. am
crime and tears. It is within the pow
er of parents to break up these harm
ful gatherings.
As the News very pertinently sug
gests if parents will not do their duty
in this matter the municipality, in or
der to prevent crime, 'has the perfect
right to break up the assembling of
boys on the street at night.
Such a law. if put in practice in
any town, would save many a heart
ache and many a boy from perdition.
