STUDENTS TO £PPLY NEW PUPILS AT PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO BE GIVEN ADMISSION CARDS. Cards of admission to the white pub lic schools of Brunswick will be is sued to applicants at Mansfield street school building beginning tomorrow morning. The cards will be issued be tween tne hours of 9 o’clock in the morning and X in trj£ afternoon. In the issuing of the cards Superin tendent Ballard will be assisted by the principals of the schools of the city. Those pupils who were in school at tnc clftse of the last session will not require cards, and places have been reserved for them. This applies whe ther they have been promoted or not. The issuing of admission cards to white pupils will he continued dur ing the evening. Everything is now In readiness for tne resumption of school duties. With scattering exceptions all the princi pals and teachers are hack in the city, rejuvenateu by vacations spent at mountain resorts or by the sea shore and better fitted than ever to "teach the young Idea how to shoot.” it is only after some months of stir ring experience with the genus small liny that the teachers are wont to con fess an occasional inclination to shoot the young idea with a shot gun. The schools will all open on Monday October 6. LITHE LOCAL LINES. The weather man made a correct prediction yesterday and we did not have any rain, the first day, however, that it has not rained during Septem teb. Everything was rather quiet in po lice circles last night ami only one or two arrests were mane and t'ney were on the same old charge of drunk and disorderly. Frazier, the negro who pleaded guilty tp the charge ot stealing tools | was sentenced by Judge Sparks Fri day to nine mcpitha on the gang. Of ficer Gill made the arrest. A large and probably the last excur sion of the season will leave here in the morning for Macon and Atlanta. Quite a large number are going to take advantage of It. The Southern Railway nas some cheap rates on to Washington and New York next month, the rate being about half the usual fare. A great many wi.. probably take advantage of this op portunity for a cheap trip to theso points. J. H. RIFLEMEN ARE GOING BRUNSWICK MILITARY COMPANY TO PARTICIPATE IN SHAM BATTLE AT VALDOSTA. The Brunswick Riflemen are in re ceipt of a letter -from Major R. L. W’ylly inviting them to participate in the exercise on military day at the state fair in Valdosta. Captain Rob inson has accepted, and will be there with his men to take -part in the sham battle and drills. Tnerc is a great deal of enthusiasm in this live and popular organization. The weekly meetings are well attend eikand many applications for member ship are now under consideration. On October 20, 1860, the original company of Brunswick Riflemen was organized and next monta the pres ent company will celebrate the forty second anniversary of tne occasion with a birthday party in the armory. On that day there will be a parade in the afternoon and in the evening a prize drill and a reception for the veterans of the company and their families at the armory, followed by a dance for the members and their friends. This will be a very pleasant and interesting affair, this anniver sary naturally being fraught with me mories and interest for the veterans, the Riflemen and Brunswick people generally. j The membership of the company how numbers forty-five. Captain Rob | inson is an energetic and enthusiastic military man and is a never and able leader and the present perfection and recent great improvement in the com pany is due to his rigid and capable discipline and hig„ military standards.
