An Old Friend in New Clothes.
Ping to me only with thine eyes,
And I will with mine;
We twain may win the challenge cup
If ping with pong combine.
The craze that in my soul doth rise
Is doubtless keen in thine;
I’ll take the role of pinger up
If thou’lt be pongstress mine.

THEATRICAL NOTES.
Paul Gilmore.
One of tho very best offerings of
the season will be presented at the
Grand when Paul Gilmore and a spec
ially selected company will appear in
Haddon Chambers exquisite comedy
of temperament, “The Tyranny of
Tears.” The play is regarded as the
masterpiece of this famous novelist
and dramatist. Is free irom vulgarity
or suggestion, full of wit, humor and
epigrammatic sayings, which are free
from viciousness, but bright aud keen
as a rapier thrust. There is too, a
serious vein intermingled and a sub
plot, which tend to make this comedy
point to a moral, which is “Don’t
cry,”
Al G. Field.
The big company of ten comedians
with the Al G. Field greater min
strels is headed by Al G. Field in
person. The greatest living delinea
tor of the negro character and dia
lect is beyond question Al G. Field.
His work stands distinct am! alone
in a class by itself, .ur. Field has
for years made a study of the negro
as he is found in every yiay life. Tins
character he has transplanted to the
stage in a manner charming in its
naturalness. The result, has been a
portrayal of the existing types of
the colored race that is as refresh
ing as it Is original, fie will be seen
this season in an uptodate program of
funnyisms that Is bound io tickle the
risibilities of his army of admirers.
